This stretch of the season always seems to sneak up on me. The days are long enough now that everything feels urgent again, expectations climb quickly, and the margin for error quietly shrinks. The adrenaline of spring start-up has passed, but summer hasn’t quite arrived to reward the effort yet. It’s usually around here that leadership feels less like a title and more like a responsibility you carry home with you.

As the winter is trying to come to an end, some courses around the province have been able to start getting out and seeing the return of the grass. This winter has seen around 6 rain events throughout the season, along with a few thaw and melt events. From what we can see here at Royal Regina, things are looking good and healthy. Other reports from around the province indicate that there has been great snow coverage and ice coverage. We hope all courses get off to a great and active season.

Dustin How, MS, AGS, Master Superintendent at Southwood Golf & Country Club in Winnipeg, Manitoba, has become CGSA’s latest member to earn the Master Superintendent (MS) designation.

Nicholas Turner, AGS, has moved into the Superintendent position at Wooden Sticks Golf Inc. in Uxbridge, ON, resulting in his designation changing from AAGS to AGS.

Syngenta Canada names Dale Kobelsky as head of marketing, crop protection; News Release from Syngenta Canada (March 11, 2026) - Syngenta Canada has named Dale Kobelsky as head of marketing, crop protection, effective April 1, 2026. In his new role, Kobelsky will lead the national marketing team and be responsible for the marketing strategy for the Canadian crop protection business.

Kobelsky brings 15 years of dedicated experience with Syngenta to this leadership position. Most recently, he served as head of professional solutions (SPS) for Canada, where he was recognized for his contributions to a business that is a clear market leader. Throughout his tenure, he has held several key crop protection marketing roles, including product lead, head of customer relationship management, and marketing and customer insight manager.

Invitation to Participate: You are invited to take part in a research study led by Mitra Kooche Moshki, a PhD candidate at the University of Guelph. The study explores how governance structures in member-owned golf clubs influence sustainability-related decision-making by managers with different professional backgrounds (e.g., superintendents, PGA professionals, clubhouse managers). The goal is to understand how governance and career pathways affect balancing short-term operations with long-term sustainability leadership in Ontario golf clubs.

If you participate, you will complete an anonymous online survey that takes about 15–18 minutes. Participants must be 18+ and currently working in, or recently experienced with, golf club management in Ontario. The survey asks about career background, club governance, and views on sustainability practices.

NTRF launching new connective website April 1; Article by Turf and Rec: The National Turfgrass Research Foundation is launching a new website on April 1, designed to connect, inform, support and move the turf industry forward.

Among the coming website features include a comprehensive, industry-focused research library, new annual and event sponsorship opportunities, and registration for the foundation’s annual fundraising golf tournament.
