As summer gets going in Manitoba it continues to be fairly dry after a very wet 2022 season. Most Superintendents that I have spoken with are watering heavily to keep turf as healthy as possible. July has brought slightly cooler weather so far than May and June which were well above their average temperatures. Courses report still being busy and everyone seems to have lots of projects on the go.
MGSA recently hosted its John B. Steel event at Niakwa Country Club. Shawn Major, AGS, host Superintendent, had the course in great shape and the winners who will represent Manitoba at the Fall Field Day in September are Jordan Joye, Mark Kerkowich, Jon McMorris and Joe Chartrand.

Superintendents in Atlantic Canada are wondering if the rain is ever going to stop. It is hard to believe that in May we were as dry as anyone had seen it for that time of year and battling numerous large forest fires.
The relentless rain has made it impossible to mow many areas and superintendents have had to make that difficult decision to put mowers out knowing there will be some damage, but not mowing will create a mess of clippings when you can get out there. This week we have finally gotten some mowers out and our blower goes all day trying to deal with the clippings.
