Across British Columbia, I continue to be impressed by the level of professionalism in this industry. The conditions we work in aren’t always predictable, and the expectations continue to evolve, but the consistency of effort and care is always there. It’s easy to take that for granted when you’re in it every day, but it’s worth recognizing.

The spring continues to be a slow start here on the east coast. Anyone trying to grow things in has had their work cut out. I was feeding things pretty good to get them going but eventually there comes a point where you’re thinking how much fertility do I have stacked up in the system and when the weather breaks, am I going to be in trouble. Time will tell on that one.

CGSA Announces Board Member Appointments for Saskatchewan and Quebec:

Matthew Choquette has been appointed Saskatchewan Director, effective immediately. He will complete the remaining term of Lance Wakefield, who has stepped down due to personal reasons. Wakefield has been a valued member of the Board, and the CGSA extends its sincere appreciation for his service, insight, and commitment to the association.

The CGSA is also pleased to announce the appointment of Trevor Anderson, MS, as Quebec Director. This position has been vacant since the unexpected passing of former Quebec Director Alan Morton, whose dedication to the association and the superintendent community is warmly remembered. The CGSA remains grateful for Alan’s service during his time on the Board.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in golf course management?

A: From a young age I was always fascinated with making lawns look good. That and the love I have for playing the game of golf.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your role?

A: Without question the team that I get to work with and the people I have been fortunate to meet throughout my career. I have had many experiences in life I never imagined possible because of the business of golf.

Q: What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you/fun fact?

A: I have a passion for burgers. I was once featured in a press article called " The Burger Meister".

Q: What advice would you give to someone pursuing a career in golf course management?

A: I am not sure there is a more rewarding career. It is demanding, requires patience and hard work. There is no better office than a golf course!

CGSA's Latest Accredited Members

MASTER SUPERINTENDENT (MS)

T-Jay Creamer, MS, AGS, Olympic View Golf Club in Victoria, British Columbia has become the latest member to earn the Master Superintendent (MS) designation!

T-Jay Creamer has dedicated over three decades to advancing turfgrass management through leadership, innovation, and education. As Superintendent at Olympic View Golf Club, he has championed data-driven practices, sustainability, and high-performance playing surfaces. His work includes international speaking engagements, research collaborations, and industry advocacy, with current service as BC CGSA Director. Passionate about elevating standards, he continues to mentor teams, drive continuous improvement, and help shape the future of golf course management today.

ACCREDITED GOLF SUPERINTENDENT (AGS)

Samuel Anstey, AGS, has moved into the position of Superintendent at The Algonquin Resort St. Andrews-by-the-Sea in St. Andrew's , New Brunswick resulting in his designation changing from AAGS to AGS.

Gregory B. Jones, AGS, CGCS, MG, Director of Agronomy at Champions Run in Omaha, Nebraska has become the latest member to earn the Accredited Golf Superintendent (AGS) designation!

Gregory Jones has served as Director of Agronomy at Champions Run for the past 15 seasons and is recognized as a respected leader within the golf course management profession. In addition to his newly earned AGS designation, he holds both the Certified Golf Course Superintendent (CGCS) and Master Greenkeeper (MG) designations.

Greg also serves on the Board of Directors of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA), where he continues to contribute to the advancement of the profession through his leadership and dedication.

GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans to conclude nearly two decades of leadership in 2027, Article pulled from GCSAA, written by Brian Martorana:

Chief Executive Officer Rhett Evans will conclude his tenure as CEO of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) effective Sept. 29, 2027, following nearly two decades of leadership and service to the association and the golf course management profession.

Evans will continue serving fully as CEO throughout the transition period, providing organizational leadership, strategic oversight, and direction for the association’s ongoing initiatives, member programs and industry partnerships.
