Manitoba is experiencing its first heat wave of the year with temperatures in the last days of May reaching the mid 30’s. Temperatures that were not seen all of last summer. Previous to the temperatures in the mid 30’s the majority of May was single digit temperatures with many nights below zero. It is safe to say spring skipped the prairies this year going straight from winter to summer.

The 2026 season has begun with both challenges and opportunities for superintendents across Ontario. A difficult winter in some regions, persistent ice cover, and a cool spring have delayed turf recovery on many properties. As a result, conversations among members have largely focused on winter injury, recovery strategies, and managing golfer expectations while waiting for consistent growing conditions to arrive.

"We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Ashley Peter LeGeyt, affectionately known as “Pedro” during his years in Mexico.
Gifted with a green thumb inherited from his mother, Ashley built a respected and influential career in the turfgrass industry. He began his career in 1971 at Kelowna Golf & Country Club, moved to Gallagher’s Canyon Golf Course in 1979, and spent the next 30 years helping to shape both Gallagher’s Canyon and later the Okanagan Golf Club under the GolfBC umbrella into the exceptional courses they are today."

| | | | CGSA Monthly Member Spotlight | | |
The CGSA is excited to introduce a new monthly member spotlight feature designed to help you get to know your fellow members better within the network! Through a brief Q&A format, we’ll highlight CGSA members from across the country, learning more about their golf course, what inspired them to pursue a career in golf course management, the challenges and successes they experience, and the advice they would offer to those entering the industry.
We look forward to sharing the stories, experiences, and passion that are at the heart of the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association.
| | Rob Munro, Assistant Superintendent at Crown Isle Resort & Golf Community | For the full Q&A feature with Rob Munro, Assistant Superintendent: Click Here | |
|
Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in golf course management?
A: My dad, Rick Munro, was a Golf Course Superintendent, and he came home one day when I was 14 and told me I needed to get a job. When I said I didn’t want to, he said “That’s too bad because you start tomorrow morning at Arbutus Ridge. Set your alarm for 4:30am.” After that first season I figured that if I already had the best job, why change it? I enrolled at Olds College a few years later.
Q: What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you/fun fact?
A: I have played golf on 4 different continents, including Europe, Australia, North America and Africa. I also write/record music!
Q: What advice would you give to someone pursuing a career in golf course management?
A: Ask a new question (or several) every day. Ask the Assistant or Superintendent at your course about maintaining turf, the Mechanic about equipment, the GM about the business side of things; and don’t be afraid to go and see what other courses are doing. No two grounds crews operate the same way.

Managing chronic conditions is becoming an increasingly important workplace conversation, with more employees balancing ongoing health concerns alongside their day-to-day responsibilities. When left unsupported, chronic conditions can impact productivity, absenteeism, disability claims, and overall employee well-being. However, with the right resources and guidance, organizations can play a meaningful role in helping employees manage their health while remaining engaged at work.
This month’s newsletter explores the importance of proactive, connected support for employees navigating chronic conditions, along with strategies and resources that can help foster healthier, more sustainable workplaces.
Managing Chronic Conditions : Wednesday, June 10th at 12:00pm EST
“I was recently diagnosed with a chronic health condition. It’s completely thrown me for a loop. In addition to affecting my energy, my hobbies, and my relationships, it is also impacting what I can and can’t do at work. I don’t know how to feel or who I should tell or how to cope with it. I really like my job and don’t want to have to leave. How do I manage all of this?”
