I think every communication will start with the line “Crazy Times”, which of course these are. Golf in BC was never officially shut down, and while many golf courses stayed open as usual, others decided to close of their own volition. There are many good reasons on both sides of the argument and whether you chose to open or close during these times my suggestion is prioritize keeping you, your family, and your staff safe.

Golf courses in Ontario remain closed with no firm opening dates announced as of May 7. On May 1, the government stated that golf courses in the province could begin preparation work in anticipation of opening. Prior to May 1, courses were only allowed to conduct essential maintenance on their property such as mowing, fertilization and watering with minimal staff. To say the least, golf courses will definitely have a different look and feel this year.

Firstly, on behalf of the CGSA, I do hope that you and your family are healthy and coping as best you can through the impact that COVID-19 has had on all of our lives, both personally and professionally. The CGSA has been actively engaged throughout this crisis, leading and supporting as best we can. The Board of Directors established a CGSA national position early, focused ultimately on taking the precautionary measures necessary to manage the health and safety risks to a minimum.

Safety Considerations for Opening in COVID-19 World
|

|
|
|
|
CGSA understands that these are unprecedented times and information is changing quickly. We want you to know that we are here to listen, to help and provide any assistance that we can. As many provinces/territories have been given the go ahead to open; there are health and safety protocols that need to be implemented. CGSA recommends that you follow the guidelines approved by your provincial health authority / medical officers of health. We must be vigilant and understand that these are re-opening strategies and not a return to pre-pandemic practices.
