After a warm dry fall which had golfers very happy and active, winter came up pretty abruptly in Manitoba. In the Winnipeg area we have the first white Halloween since 2006 and the forecast doesn’t show any significant warmup in the near term. While it was a quick finish to the 2023 golf season most of the Superintendents that I have spoken with did manage to complete their most important winterization tasks with maybe a couple of small projects left hanging over to next spring. The 2023 golf season is drawing to a close in Ontario. Golf courses across the province are in various stages of winter preparation. As it typically does, the weather kept things interesting during 2023 as it swung from one extreme to the other. The prevailing opinion is that it was a wet year. However, despite the weather, interest in golf remains strong, as preliminary reports indicate that the number of rounds played is equal to or greater than last season.
