Golf is all finished in Atlantic Canada, aside from a few courses in the Annapolis Valley and the extreme Western Shore of Nova Scotia. Focus has shifted for everyone to fall projects and putting things to bed for the season. It has been an extremely dry fall here and our irrigation reservoir still has not recovered. My lake at home is lower now than it was in the summer. It will be a major issue if the ground does not get a chance to get saturated before it freezes. The domestic well at our shop went dry last week.

As the golf season comes to a close on the West Coast, many would likely consider it a more favourable year for growing grass. After enduring high temperatures and prolonged droughts in previous seasons, the timely rainfall in most areas of the province provided much-needed relief, especially in terms of irrigation needs.
While irrigation demands may have been lower, I’m sure we all found other areas to focus our efforts. The continuous drive for improvement of our properties is a common trait among Superintendents, and I commend all of you for the hard work you put in this season.
