As I write this report southern Manitoba is experiencing its first significant frost of the season. After an above average September with many rounds of golf played it appears fall is beginning to set in. The spring and early summer started off with much higher-than-normal precipitation once the weather turned the second half of the season was above normal temperatures and average precipitation. Courses that experienced damage from winter and spring conditions have recovered well. The season is finishing on a positive note across much of the province.  

The Fall Field Day was a great couple of days in Vancouver. It was nice playing some great golf courses, seeing familiar faces and catching up.

Already October, the golf season is quickly winding down and winter preparations are right around the corner. Next week, blowout of the irrigation system will happen at my place and the last day of golf is scheduled for October 14^th. It has been a relatively nice warm fall in Saskatchewan. Golf courses are still growing like August, and it has been a bit of a challenge keeping up with all the student staff members going back to school.

The Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA) and Envu announced Mr. Reid Solodan, AGS, Superintendent from the Canmore Golf & Curling Club in Canmore, Alberta as the CGSA/Envu Superintendent of the Year.

The CGSA/Envu Superintendent of the Year award recognizes a member of the CGSA who has held the position of golf course superintendent for a minimum of five years and who has distinguished her or himself through dedication to the profession, performance as a golf course superintendent and contributions to their profession and their community.

Guelph Turfgrass Students visited TPC for shop tours, talks on irrigation, thatch management, fescue management, renovations and preparation to host the RBC Canadian Open in 2025.

The Guelph Turfgrass Institute needs your help. They are asking all Canadian turf management professionals, "What's Your (turf) problem?" The survey will help guide future discussions, research projects, "Allowable List" pesticide submissions, and User Requested Minor Use Label Expansion with the Pest Management Regulatory Agency. The survey closes October 30, 2024.
