This is our 26th Greenbelt East Trail Newsletter. If you're new to the project, our website for Friends of the Greenbelt East Trail is www.greenbeltnasatrail.org for background info.
Here's the latest news:
- We had a great Bike to Work Convoy to NASA from Greenbelt, along parts of the future Greenbelt East Trail (see pic above).
- Diane and Jeff from Friends of the GET also presented at WABA's Prince George's County Bike Summit (see pics below)!
- SHA District 3 says they're starting the process of getting a 2nd white stripe of paint on the NASA section. But I don't know the timing of completing that.
- I haven't heard from MDOT in a while. No news on the feasibility study for the non-NASA sector of the trail, or on whether the NASA sector has been turned over to engineering design. I suspect no news is not good news, but I really don't know. I'll start making more calls next week, but I assume the reason I'm not getting info is because there isn't any.
- Reminder, here's the link to the final MDOT Feasibility Study for the NASA Sector.
- The biggest problem with the feasibility study for the NASA sector is the proposed 200 foot right turn deceleration lane inbound to NASA's old main gate at Goddard Road from the east, which is very much unnecessary (that old NASA gate is being phased out) and greatly adds to the estimated cost.
- The WB&A Trail bridge over the Patuxent River is almost complete (see video below)! That makes the Greenbelt East Trail more important than ever, both for safety and connectivity in the local area and region.
- Our next stakeholders call will be at noon, either Friday June 21st or June 28th. If you have a preference let me know! I'll send the calendar invites out next week, either way. Please reply to this email or send a note to info@greenbeltnasatrail.org if you'd like to be added to the invite list for our monthly stakeholders calls.
