Principal's Message

It was a short week at Greenbriar but we packed a lot into our three days together! We began NWEA MAP testing in 4th and 5th grades this week and completed our bus evacuation drills. Picture day is taking place today as well. We were excited to re-open our library this week after a lot of hard work by Mrs. Sanchez! We're still awaiting the arrival of our new circulation desk and will share pictures once everything is in place. For now, it has been great to see teachers and students checking out books in our fabulous new space.

Next week is another short week with no school on Thursday. We look forward to our first PTO meeting on Tuesday (please join--details are below!). Please enjoy a restful and safe weekend.

Warmly,
Ginny
SHIELD Testing to Begin on Monday
For those students participating in weekly SHIELD testing, we will begin our first tests on Monday, 9/13. Moving forward, Greenbriar students will be tested each Monday morning. Students will test in our auditorium where there is ample room to spread out for safety and privacy. Please remember that students cannot eat or drink for one hour prior to testing so breakfast on Mondays should ideally conclude by 7:45 a.m. Please refer to SHIELD information and FAQ posted on our website or contact me with any questions (ghiltz@northbrook28.net).

Fall Assessment Window Opens *repeat*
Next week, our students in 2nd through 5th grades will begin fall assessments including the NWEA MAP assessment. Students in grades K and 1 will take the AIMSWeb+ math and reading screener and first through fourth (and some fifth) graders will meet with teachers to complete the Fountas & Pinnell benchmark reading assessment. Teachers use all of these assessments to better understand and target learning goals for each student. Parents will receive MAP score reports in October after the district's testing window closes. Below are the dates when MAP tests will be given. Teachers will follow up with specific information about timing.

2nd grade MAP Math: September 14th
2nd grade MAP Reading: September 15th
3rd grade MAP Math: September 17th

PTO News
OUR FIRST PTO MEETING
Please join us next Tuesday, September 14th @ 8:45 AM for our first PTO Meeting of the year. Learn about what's happening in the school and district and about future events for our students.

VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED
The PTO needs your help! We are looking for volunteers for the following committees:

  • Gift Card Plus: 1-2 Volunteers needed to distribute and collect order forms for gift cards and then distribute the various orders to Greenbriar families. This program typically runs 3x a year allowing families to purchase through the school (which gives a percentage back to the PTO).

  • Birthday Signs: 5-10 more Volunteers needed to set up and take down birthday yard signs during their designated week. Once volunteers sign up, they will be contacted by the committee chairs for their “birthday” week.

SPIRIT WEAR THANK YOU!
Thank you to all who ordered spirit wear.

A big THANK YOU goes to Julie Hochschild for all of her work on spirit wear! We expect spirit wear items to arrive back sometime in October, and will keep everyone posted as it gets closer their arrival.
