Our watershed is big and so are our dreams!

We dream of continuing our programs to keep our waters clean and healthy for all. We dream of growing our membership and volunteer numbers. We dream of continuing our water quality project and educational programs. Would you please consider a donation or membership? Any amount helps and we sincerely appreciate your contributions. You can go directly to Membership and Donations and make a donation of your choice or become a member! Our mailing address is PO Box 1419 Lewisburg, WV 24901 Thank you!

Save the date! October 21st will be our annual water quality presentation and membership meeting and all are welcome to come. We will start at 6:30 pm at the Clingman Center in Lewisburg with a free food buffet (thank you WVRivers and WVDEP stream partner grants). The GRWA has concluded 3 years of water quality testing with many volunteers from 25 sites starting at Durbin, all the way down to Hinton. We thank all of you! It's not over though, we are taking a short break while all of our data is compiled and mapped out. Then we will proceed again, using the knowledge we have gained. This is a great time to renew your memberships and see just where your dues and donations have made a difference! Check out the short video of our volunteers working hard - gathering data.

Come see us at the Freshwater Folk Festival at the White Sulphur Springs National Fish Hatchery on Saturday, Sept 12th, 10am - 3 pm. We will have some activities for kids, educational materials about what we do, and GRWA t-shirts, hats, drybags for sale. We will also have FREE bags of native seeds for planting along stream banks for erosion control.

From Jenna Breeckner, GRWA volunteer extraordinaire:

"I met with students of the WVU plant and soil science club at Cass, along the Greenbrier River to discuss environmental opportunities and gauge the students’ interest on various environmental topics. We talked about nonprofit, private, and state/federal environmental job opportunities, noting that grants and paid nonprofit positions are hard to come by in the current climate. We discussed some of the projects and research the students have been working on, including one student who got to travel internationally for soil judging. We walked to the new campground and talked about how development along the river can cause erosion and worsen the impacts of flooding. They were all extremely bright young women with a passion for soil and water as the building blocks of life."

Did you know that our watershed in West Virginia is home to the Eastern Spotted Skunk? Smaller than their striped relatives, these agile critters are excellent tree climbers. When threatened, they will actually stand on their front hands in an acrobatic warning display before spraying. You can read more about them here

Stop the Money Pipeline ~ If we can stop the flow of money, we can stop the flow of oil. In early 2020, thirty-two organizations came together to form the Stop the Money Pipeline coalition. We stand on the shoulders of years of movement work pressuring financial institutions to act on climate.
