Greenfield Considered a MODEL School for 2017-2018
The School District of Philadelphia has released the School Progress Report (SPR) for 2017-2018. The SPR is a tool designed to help the District support, respond to, and improve schools. The SPR enables the District to track progress and growth of students against the District's anchor goals.
Part of the SPR is based on results of the Parent; Student; and Teacher Surveys administered each year.

Help Us Get a New Playground
Greenfield HSA has begun a "Major Gifts" campaign to raise the funds necessary to undertake major capital projects without compromising the classroom programs that we presently support. Our first initiative is to raise funds to rebuild our outdated playground. Specifically, we intend to replace the playground's existing primary play structure and redevelop one of the school's two kindergarten play areas.
In furtherance of the HSA's playground project and in recognition of the fact that Greenfield's playground is the only publicly-accessible playground located in Center City West, the HSA was nominated to apply for a Keystone Opportunity grant in the amount of $100,000.00 from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (the "DCED"). However, the DCED requires the HSA to obtain a dollar-for-dollar match in order to qualify for the full amount of this grant. Therefore, if the HSA wishes to receive the benefit of the DCED grant, the HSA must obtain, on or before March 1, 2019, pledge commitments of no less than $100,000.00.
To achieve this goal, the HSA is asking parents to consider their personal networks to identify individuals or companies who share our commitment to improving our greater community. If you know of someone who may be able to make a pledge or you otherwise would like assistance in reaching out to your personal network, please email
[email protected]
. The redevelopment of our playground is uniquely positioned to benefit not just Greenfield's students but also the larger community of which Greenfield is a part.
Thank you for your consideration and support.

How to Discuss Puberty with your T(w)een
Wednesday, February 13
8:00 a.m.

Puberty can be exciting, awkward and confusing for children and parents alike. The goal of this workshop is to help parents discuss puberty, adolescence and sex with their children in a natural and conversational way. After her enlightening and informative visit last year, Dr Aletha Akers joins us again on Feb 13 to lead a discussion on best practices for encouraging dialogue with your Tween/young adult.
Dr Akers is an adolescent gynecologist and medical director of Adolescent Gynecology Consultative Services in the Craig-Dalsimer Division of Adolescent Medicine at CHOP. She is a faculty member of CHOP's Policylab and an expert in pediatric and adolescent gynecology, having conducted studies on how best to help parents to talk with their children about sex, how to encourage adolescents to wait before having sex and how to reduce pregnancy and sexually transmitted infection rates in teens.
