This Week's Ram Report

This week's newsletter is chock-full of important information. Here are some of the highlights:
  • We have one week left! Please consider making your Annual Fund donation now so we can receive the full matching gifts and the challenge gift. If we can raise $100,000 by November 6th, we can limit our Annual Fund asks and focus on having fun as a community! Please help us get over the finish line!
  • We have our first Family Dinner Night at the Cambridge this week. Please join us for some great food and great company! See details below.
  • The Greenfield Halloween Party is this Friday! Please volunteer here and buy tickets in advance at pick up or drop off every day this week.
Have a great week!
Greenfield Announcements
Fundraising Update

Last week, we announced two additional matching gifts of $5,000 each and one challenge gift of $5,000 if we can reach $100,000 by November 6th.  Please help us reach this goal - we are so close!

The easiest way to make a gift is through Venmo (click HERE to give through Venmo). You can also make a gift through PayPal HERE or by check. Please make checks  payable to "Greenfield Home & School Association," and please write "Annual Fund" in memo along with your child's homeroom teacher. Checks may go in HSA lockbox in the Main Office, or to your child's teacher.
Safety at 22nd and Walnut Streets

We have been told that there is a shortage of crossing guards in Philadelphia, so a crossing guard is not available for the intersection at 22nd and Walnut Streets.

If you have two minutes, please consider placing a call to the 9th District's Community Relations Officer at 215-686-3090 to request the presence of a police officer during drop-off and pick-up times to help keep our children safe.
Bathroom Update

In December 2018, HSA and Mr. Lazar submitted a request to the school district related to bathroom renovations.  After an initial walk-through around the time of the auction, we received a quote solely related to plumbing.

For the past 6 months, Mr. Lazar and HSA have tried repeatedly to obtain quotes for the other work, e.g. painting, carpentry, mirrors and dryers, by reaching out to both the Maintenance/Operations Division and the Office of Capital Programs.  Last week, the Director of Maintenance finally reached out to Mr. Lazar and Mr. Lazar did a second walk-through with the Director.

The district knows that HSA has raised the funds to pay for this project but we are again left waiting for quotes from the various fields.  We are holding out hope that we will receive the quotes sooner rather that later and continue to stress to the district that the renovations should be completed in the least disruptive manner for our children.

While we have taken the first step (again) to initiate the bathroom renovations, it is an extremely long and arduous process working with the district to obtain the proper approvals and begin construction.

We will continue to keep you posted and let you know if no additional progress has been made in the next two weeks.

School Selection:

Online Application
*High school applications can be submitted and modified online until November 1st at 5:00 pm. Students can log into their student account using their school district ID and password. They should then select 'Message Center' from the menu tab and select the 'School Selection' icon to apply.
*Charter schools and private schools DO NOT go on the online application.
*When completing the application online, select "Hand Deliver" for the essays. This indicates that Ms. Stern will hand deliver your children's essays to their selected schools.
*The attached essay questions are required for Central, Motivation, Engineering and Science, Palumbo and Bodine. Printed out essays are due to Ms. Stern by Friday, 10/25/19.
*The date of submission of the application does not impact selection decisions.
*The order in which schools are listed on the application does not matter EXCEPT if it is a lottery school (Constitution, Robeson, Workshop, HS of the Future). Lottery schools should be listed first to increase the odds of being selected.

Open House:
*Please see the attached updated high school audition, shadow, interview and open house schedule.

Science Leadership Academy Interview:
*SLA requires that high school applicants complete an interview or be scheduled for an upcoming interview in order for their applications to be considered. Please email SLA as soon as possible to schedule the interview for your child. These slots fill up quickly! You can also call SLA Beeber at (215) 400-7270

Parents of 8th graders:
Please let Ms. Stern know if you are not receiving the 'high school update' emails that she is sending weekly. Please call her at 215-400-7810 (option 1) or email at [email protected] with any questions about this process.
