Donor Spotlight: Teagan Intermill

On her way to school each day, Teagan Intermill would pass an area where trees were being cut down, and eventually learned it was to make way for a new gas station. She was concerned, and wanted to know what she could do to help better protect our natural green spaces. So this summer she was inspired to open a lemonade stand in her neighborhood - and donate the proceeds to HEC! Teagan's care for our planet deepened after learning about marine pollution in National Geographic Kids.  Teagan is in the fourth grade and enjoys rollerblading as well as baking with her mom. She lives in Carmel.

Thank you, Teagan, for donating your time to support HEC -- and helping our shared environment -- in such a unique and inspiring way!

If you would like to be like Teagan, please donate to help protect our environment!
Mounds Greenway Forum Recap
And be sure to register for "Ride for the Mounds"!

About 50 Yorktown area residents attended Monday evening's public forum on the Mounds Greenway plan at Yorktown High School. HEC presented the findings of the Mounds Greenway Economic, Health and Environmental Benefits Analysis and then answered questions and responded to comments from the audience. Apart from a few landowners expressing concerns about the greenway trail's potential effects on their land, most speakers were supportive of the plan. One Cardinal Greenway neighbor dispelled concerns about trash being common along greenways, saying the Cardinal is well maintained and a positive experience for the trail's neighbors.
More public forums about the Mounds Greenway are being planned.

If you love being in nature, be sure to join us for the second annual "Ride for the Mounds" on Saturday, September 24th.  Register at .

Attend a Conference on the "Bicentennial Visioning Project"

Engaged citizens from across Indiana will gather on Thursday, September 8th to learn about, discuss, and provide input on, the "Bicentennial Visioning Project," a brand new book that advances 50 big ideas for Indiana's future. The book, developed by experts from a variety of professional, demographic, and ideological backgrounds, is in celebration of Indiana's 200th anniversary. One of the eleven topics that will be discussed during the conference will be on the Environment & Conservation.

HEC was fortunate to have been asked to participate in the development of the Environmental Chapter of this book, and we certainly thought about our supporters while sharing our ideas. If you would like to attend this conference (which will be preceded by a Dinner Reception that you can also attend), please register here.
