Village Notices

  • Ferry Queue & LIRR/Jitney Lot Update: the LIRR/Jitney lot off 4th Street reopened earlier this month, and finish work is starting on planting and lighting. The Long Island Rail Road Museum and East End Seaport museum will be connected with a sidewalk and new lighting as well. And we worked with LIRR to remove the third track in order to build a new garden space with the Seaport museum in the coming months. The ferry queue paving has finished along with all new drainage work, and painting of lines and cross walks will be done this week. The Ferry Company will be opening up the new queue soon thereafter which will help relieve traffic on Wiggins and other village streets as summer traffic increases. Work on this is ahead of schedule.

  • Paving: Sixth Street milling and paving will begin this week and should be completed in early June. Please look for fliers and communication from our paving contractor on what parts of the street are being done. Your patience is appreciated working with them to keep cars off the street when milling and paving is taking place.

  • The Greenport Carousel is set to reopen early summer following significant repairs and restoration. Work begins this week to reassemble the carousel with new parts and a repaired and restored center structure. This is the first time in 24 years the carousel has been completely taken apart for repairs and long term maintenance. Stay tuned for an announcement about the grand reopening!

  • Greenport School budget and board vote: Tuesday, May 20th 2-8 PM Greenport High School, “Dude” Manwaring Gymnasium

  • On Friday May 9th, John Quinlan was honored for his service on the Village Tree Committee. Over the course of John’s tenure, over 1,000 trees were planted in Greenport. A tree has been planted in his honor in the 3rd Street park.

Please include a paragraph or two about yourself, why you’re interested in serving on the committee, and any particular experience or knowledge you feel might be helpful:

  • The Arts committee has just been formed to help coordinate public murals downtown. Members and a chairperson are needed. For the chair, someone who’s not a working artist in the painting or drawing mediums would be ideal.
  • The Carousel committee is looking for new members, especially parents of younger children.
  • The Mini Railroad committee is also seeking additional members.
  • A new Mitchell Park 25th anniversary & America’s 250th Committee will help organize celebrations for July 2026 and help finalize the new ice rink.
