Preserve Our Past, Plan Our Future...

A Message From the Greenport Mayor

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

With summer just around the corner, I am honored to connect with you once again. Your support and engagement continue to inspire me, and I take great pride in serving as your Mayor.

In recent months, your voices have echoed through our meetings, addressing issues vital to the future of Greenport. I am so pleased to share we recently were awarded $3 million by the federal government to help make much needed repairs to our aging marina bulkhead!

Our Village Board subcommittees have continued to work hard on the updating our municipal codes and more. Drawing from the insights gleaned during January’s "Vision for Greenport" meeting, we are integrating valuable information into our ongoing efforts to help raise funds through grants for the village.

In our commitment to fostering housing opportunities, Greenport Village has submitted an application to the State of New York, seeking recognition as a “pro-housing community.” This designation holds the promise of priority consideration for up to $650 million in discretionary funding, aimed at bolstering communities dedicated to providing affordable housing solutions.

Looking ahead, I am excited to announce our next "Vision for Greenport" meeting which will be hosted this summer to share a state of the village report and further enage the community. This gathering will serve as a platform to review the progress made thus far, with a particular focus on infrastructure, climate resiliency, parking and wayfinding initiatives. Your presence and input are invaluable, and I encourage each of you to mark your calendars and join us for this discussion when we finalize a date. Also, on Tuesday, July 2nd our board will meet again to review potential updates to the short term rental code. Many of you have expressed concern about finding balance between community character and the needs of business with short term rentals.

And, with the help of Assemblyman Thiele there is state legislation in front of the Governor which would help bring needed CPF funding to Greenport. Keep your eyes out for an email in the coming weeks on this important subject and a potential preservation project in the village.

I also want to give a special thanks to all who serve our village including the village staff, volunteer firefighters & rescue squad and our police officers. Also, a special thank you to Chief Flatley for his many years of service to the village and town as he retires. He's been a great partner and I very much look forward to working with the town and incoming Chief Grattan on continuing to build the team to protect and serve Greenport.

Together, let us continue to shape the future of our village, guided by our collective vision and shared commitment to prosperity and inclusivity.

Warm regards,

Mayor Kevin
