ATHLETICS
Fall Sports Has Banner Gold Seasons!
Fall Sports teams at Saint Mary’s have enjoyed successful seasons this year! Football is currently 7-3 and looking forward to the 4A state playoffs. Girls Volleyball had a winning record and qualified for the state playoffs for the 4th year in a row. After not having a Swim team last year due to COVID restrictions, the Knights returned with a strong season, ending with several top 5 finishers at the Division III State Meet, highlighted by Junior Michael Ellison finishing 2nd in the 500m Freestyle, and 4th in the 200m Freestyle. Joseph Ellison took 10th in the 100m Butterfly. Cross Country qualified 4 runners for the State Championship Meet this upcoming Saturday. Boys and Girls Golf both enjoyed successful seasons, competing well in our region and Sectionals. Spiritline has its largest team in many years cheering on our teams.

As we begin to wrap up our fall sports seasons, we begin to look forward to an exciting winter sports season. Boys and Girls soccer will play their home games at Monterey Park this year, which was closed last year. Both basketball programs are seeing an increase in participation numbers. Girls basketball returns several starters along with a few new promising student athletes and looks to build on their 10-6 record from last year. Boys Basketball had a record setting season last year, compiling a 21-1 record and winning the 4A State Championship. The Knights look to contend for another State Championship this upcoming season.

FINE ARTS
Saint Mary's Drama Club Presents The Winter's Tale
Saint Mary's Drama presented The Winter's Tale this past month in Wiegand Auditorium. It is one of William Shakespeare's late romances but twists with a comedic ending. When the jealous king Leontes of Sicilia falsely accuses his wife, Hermione of infidelity with his best friend, King Polixenes, he destroys his family. His son dies from distress at this state, at which Hermione also dies. He exiles his newborn daughter, Perdita, to Bohemia, where she is raised by shepherds. After 16 years, she has grown in grace and beauty, and falls in love with the son of Leontes's friend King Polixenes. When chance brings Perdita and her love to Sicilia, the oracle of Apollo is fulfilled, and the statue of Hermione comes to life, whereupon all are reconciled.

Congratulations to first-year teacher Ms. Juliet Atchley and all the cast members for this fascinating interpretation of The Winter's Tale!
