Mini-Grant Deadline Extended
Many landowners experienced record levels of flooding along the Brandywine Creek as a result of hurricane Ida in early September. Since then, several municipalities along the Brandywine have had to focus on cleanup and restoration efforts, which has taken time and resources away from other efforts. In light of these circumstances, the deadline for Mini-Grant applications has been extended to
Friday, December 17, 2021. We encourage partner municipalities in Pennsylvania to apply.
The Mini-Grant Program will fund small projects that improve parks, open space and community trails, and will advance priority conservation and recreation projects identified in the BCG's Strategic Action Plan (Part 1 and Part 2), plus other publicly vetted municipal planning documents. Eligible applicants include Pennsylvania non-profit organizations with tax-exempt status 501(c)(3), municipalities, counties, and some educational institutions.

Please visit the BCG Mini-Grant website for more information and to download the application materials. Contact Sarah Sharp or Sheila Fleming if you wish to discuss your project.
Hoffman's Mill Dam Removal
The Brandywine Conservancy was recently awarded over $150,000 from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s Delaware Watershed Conservation Fund to remove the Hoffman’s Mill Dam on the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art’s campus in Chadds Ford. The removal of the dam will restore aquatic habitat in the area, improve recreational safety along the proposed Brandywine Creek Water Trail, and build upon addition dam removal projects both upstream and downstream of the site to restore migratory shad to the Brandywine after a 200-year absence.
Additional matching grants will be sought to fully fund the removal of the dam, but it is anticipated that preliminary planning and engineering can begin in early 2022. The Brandywine hopes to repurpose material removed from the dam for landscaping projects elsewhere on the organization’s campus.
If you have questions about the Hoffman's Mill Dam removal project, contact Rob Daniels.
Chadds Ford awarded $500,000
Chadds Ford Township was awarded $500,000 from the Delaware County Green Ways Grant Program towards implementation of the Village of Chadds Ford Master Plan. The funding will be used to construct a multi-modal trail, now known as the “Walkable Chadds Ford Trail,” that will create safe connectivity between major cultural, historic, retail, restaurant, economic, tourism, natural and recreational resources in the historic Village of Chadds Ford. The project was also awarded $1 million in statewide funds through the 2019 round of Transportation Alternative grants, and is awaiting word on a current application for another $1 million. With funding in place, construction could begin in summer, 2022.

Congratulations, Chadds Ford!!!
