Prevention Information

SafeSpot, a confidential overdose prevention hotline designed to save lives. The number one risk factor for a fatal overdose is using alone. In such situations, life-saving medication like naloxone (NARCAN® Nasal Spray) cannot be self-administered. That’s where SafeSpot comes in.

By calling 800-972-0590, individuals are connected to a trained operator who will:

• Stay on the line while they use

• Ask for their location in case they stop responding

• Call for help immediately if an overdose is suspected

How to Support Young People in Making a Change- Without Taking Over

Young minds are full of passion and powerful ideas. Adults can help young people not just create change, but own it. Here’s how to mentor with respect, not control.

Start with trust

Trust is the foundation for meaningful mentorship, and it’s the adult’s job to help youth feel safe and supported.

  • Show up consistently. Reliability matters.
  • Build relationships before offering advice. Really get to know the young people you’re working with and appreciate them as unique human beings.
  • Follow through on small asks – no broken promises.
  • Lead by example and model the behaviors that you encourage.
  • Listen more than you talk, and believe what young people tell you.

Community Opportunities

Driving It Home: Empowering Youth to Step Into Responsibility

Tuesday, October 8, 1 PM

In partnership with SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), Carol Lucio and a SADD youth leader will discuss how adults can help youth balance freedom and responsibility—behind the wheel and in everyday life. Through modeling, mentorship, and open conversations, parents, caregivers, and schools can prepare young people to make healthier choices around friendships, technology, mental health, and substance use. Attendees will leave with practical resources to support smart decision-making at every age.
