STI Clinical Training Program Update
The CAPTC STI Clinical Training program provides training, technical assistance, clinical tools, and STI clinical consultation.

CAPTC and the California Department of Public Health are recruiting early-career physicians for a Fellowship in Sexually Transmitted Infections. Applications are due January 31st.

Our Clinical Program Medical Director, Ina Park, MD, participated in developing the updated 2021 CDC STI Treatment Guidelines. Check out this recorded webinar on what's new. Dr. Park's book, Strange Bedfellows, is coming out in paperback on February 1st. Hailed by The New York Times as “joyful and funny” Strange Bedfellows has been praised for its use of “compassion, science and a loving playfulness” to diffuse the stigma surrounding these common infections.

An important update is that some syphilis tests are showing a false-positive after Covid-19 vaccination. See the FDA recommendations regarding this issue.

An exciting development is the FDA's approval of injectable PrEP, providing an option for those who need or prefer injection rather than a pill to prevent HIV. To learn more about the variety of PrEP regimens available, watch the recent STI Expert Hour Webinar, Why the Dose Matters: PrEP Strategies for HIV, and check out the 2021 PrEP Clinical Practice Guidelines.

Finally, CAPTC’s clinical team formed a cross-institutional collaboration with Kaiser Permanente Northern California (KPNC) to share ideas and best practices for delivering sexual health care virtually. Representatives from CAPTC's clinical team held five Virtual Sexual Health Learning Community Sessions with faculty from both KPNC and CAPTC on expedited partner therapy, advanced diagnostics, syphilis management, and sexual history taking.
