Marin Chapter Membership Meeting

Saturday, March 11, 2023

9:00 AM PT

Please join us as we follow up on our all-district February 15th virtual meeting with Rep. Jared Huffman, at which we presented CCL's expanded policy agenda and heard his views. Collaborating with the Santa Rosa chapter, almost 50 CCLers learned how they can get more involved. We'll continue elaborating how you can participate at whatever level you choose, focusing on navigating CCL Community's rich resources to find your action team and trainings, and opportunities to act locally.

We'll also hear more about how communities can encourage electrification through the massive Inflation Reduction Act. The speaker will be CCL member Jay Bassett of Atlanta, GA, a 30 year veteran of the EPA. Most IRA webinars focus on its direct rebates and tax credits, which leave out the many households that are renters, including many Black and Hispanic-led households. Jay’s career and passion are dedicated to engaging communities - especially Community Based Organizations - in optimizing federal funds for local benefit, and addressing support for landlords, especially of multifamily properties. EJ members should pay close attention to his recommendation.

Rev. Mitch Hescox, Evangelical Environmental Network

In the quest to find common ground between Republicans and Democrats on climate solutions, communities of faith play an important role in bridging the partisan divide. Members of the Evangelical Environmental Network focus on caring for creation. Rev. Hescox will describe their efforts to educate and mobilize evangelical Christians for a stable climate and a healthy, pollution-free world. Rev. Hescox, co-author of Caring for Creation: The Evangelical Guide To Climate Change and a Healthy Environment, serves as a member of the National Association of Evangelicals’ Board of Directors and EPA’s Clean Air Act Advisory Committee.

Combating Global Warming:

Prioritizing What Really Works

Peter G. Joseph, M.D.

Group Leader, Marin Citizens' Climate Lobby

Wednesday, March 22, 2023, 7-8:30 PM

Dominican University, Creekside Room

Global warming is fast causing more severe droughts, fires, sea level rise, habitat disruption and both human and animal migration. What are the policies most urgently required to halt this ominous trend? Citing expert opinion and using a climate simulator developed at MIT, Dr. Joseph will demonstrate the impact of numerous proposals, such as increasing the use of electric vehicles, reforestation, and taxing carbon. He will integrate the most effective measures to combat global warming into a clear, science-based plan. The results may prove surprising.

The 2023 Climate Lobbying Reboot

CCL's D.C. Conference

June 10-13, 2023

It's a new Congress, and we'll welcome them with the biggest single day of climate lobbying since 2019. CCL's conference includes everything you'll need to power up your climate advocacy - inspiration, best practices and information. This year, you'll get to put everything you learn to use when you meet with members of Congress on Capitol Hill and talk to them about climate change.

For more information, visit the June Conference & Lobby Day website, or email conference.inbox@citizensclimate.org

CBAM? What's that?

How else can the global economy harmonize carbon pricing?

You're about to hear a lot more about CBAM's, so watch Niskanen Center's climate policy manager Shuting Pomerleau discuss Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanisms with over 500 audience members at CCL's December's conference. Hear about the goals, importance, and policy design considerations of carbon border adjustments. Wonky, yes, but ready or not, here it comes.

DO NOT MISS THIS SERIES!

Denial, Doubt and Delay -- that was yesterday. Now it's Deception, Distraction, Disinformation and Doomism. Don't buy it. For more, watch Dr. Michael Mann's talk at Book Passage on The New Climate War.

You're invited, but...

This is how one behaves inside The Capitol:

Make an appointment. Business attire recommended. Bring nothing that even looks like a weapon.
