"There's really no such thing as the 'voiceless.' There are only the
deliberately silenced, or the preferably unheard."

― Arundhati Roy

Did You Know?
In 1920, all states made wife-beating illegal; however, it was still considered to be a "family issue." Only since the 1970s has the criminal justice system started to treat domestic violence as a serious crime.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
For many people, home is a place that symbolizes family, love, and comfort, a place of happiness and healing. However, for millions of others, home is not a safe place. The U.S. Department of Justice estimates that:

  • 1.3 million women and 835,000 men are victims of physical violence by a partner every year.
  • Every 9 seconds, a woman in the U.S. is beaten or assaulted by a current or ex-significant other.
  • 1 in 4 men are victims of some form of physical violence by an intimate partner.

Ever since Covid hit our world, SAHARA’s Domestic Violence calls rose more than 300% and our mental health counselor doubled her case load. For the South Asian Community,
SAHARA is their lifeline but it’s not possible without YOU, our SAHARA family.
You can make a difference in the lives of these survivors:
$20/month provides a survivor with transportation and translation for court and medical visits.
$29/month helps a survivor get language and job training to build her financial independence.
$39/month helps a survivor go through our customized program where we provide legal assistance and mental health healing to build a foundation for a survivor's personal and legal independence.
$57/month helps survivors receive culturally-appropriate groceries in shelter for her sense of home and religious dietary comfort.

Your contribution is for clients' safety and healing. SAHARA is the messenger for delivering your care and generosity to our clients.
You are saving lives.
As our Senior Social Worker says, “Even after 12 years, every case is unique.

Help SAHARA help the community
For the first time in 29 years, SAHARA had a virtual Fundarising Gala. Thanks to SAHARA's Board of Directors, Staff and Community members, it was a huge success! Comedian Rajiv Satyal and Producer/ Director of Netflix's Indian Matchmaking, Smriti Mundhra lit up the screen with their jokes and conversations.
