Littany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Composed by St. Frances Xavier Cabrini
Loving Heart of Jesus, attract me;
All-powerful Heart of Jesus , win me to Yourself;
Unchanging Heart of Jesus, keep me constant;
Immensity of the Heart of Jesus, fill me;
Holiness of the Heart of Jesus, make me holy;
Providence of the Heart of Jesus, assist me!
Obedience of the Heart of Jesus, make me docile;
Silence of the Heart of Jesus, teach me;
Sweetness of the Heart of Jesus, make me gentle;
Purity of the Heart of Jesus, purify me!
Patience of the Heart of Jesus, bear with me;
Desires of the Heart of Jesus, rule in me;
Flames of the Heart of Jesus, set me on fire!
Kindness of the Heart of Jesus, encircle me;
Sufferings of the Heart of Jesus, make me compassionate;
Riches of the Heart of Jesus, satisfy me!
Humiliations of the Heart of Jesus, overwhelm me;
Graces of the Heart of Jesus, flood me!
Sacred Heart, my King, flood me!
Sacred Heart, my Father, give me life;
Sacred Heart my Teacher, Instruct me;
Sacred Heart, my Guide, lead me!

Sacred Heart, my Savior, save me!
Sacred Heart, my God, be my ALL -

Plans for Reopening the Shrine, Gradually
Cardinal Cupich, along with the bishops of Illinois, has presented guidelines to follow for reopening places of worship, i.e. parishes and shrines. The guidelines incorporate safety measures required by the State of Illinois; and for us, the guidelines encompass the expectations of the City of Chicago.

Phase II, reopening worship sites for mass, remains weeks away.
Phase I & IA, reopening our worship site for private prayer,
currently engages the work of our staff. In order to receive Archdiocesan permission to reopen for 10 or fewer people, our readiness requires specific safety measures for visitors and staff, including sanitizing spaces and places in the Shrine along with training for staff and for volunteers. Staff and volunteers have viewed the training video; very informative! Knowing that all places of Catholic worship in the State of Illinois reopens with the same parameters invites confidence for all. You can access the training video to appreciate the breath of concern for all of us. Click here for information on viewing the webinar.

The planning for our limited reopening includes the opportunity to visit the Shine for prayer on Wednesdays & Saturdays, 11:00am-1:00pm. When training is complete for staff & volunteers, along with the readiness for keeping the space safe, Sr. Bridget and Msgr. Hynes will submit our application for reopening. When receiving the permission from the Archdiocese to open on dates we indicate, everyone will be informed; visitors will need to register, understanding the guidelines for visitors to follow, including the wearing of masks and practicing social distancing.

Message from our Rector
Rev. Msgr. Richard Hynes
Among the treasures in our Shine of Mother Cabrini is the stained-glass window of Pentecost, including the apostles and the Blessed Mother. All were present at the birth of the Church, disciples gathered, Mary among them and received the Holy Spirit. As we celebrate this great feast the words of St. Cyril from centuries ago remain instructive and compelling.

Water comes down from heaven as rain, and although it is always the same in itself, it produces many different effects, one in the palm tree another in the vine and so on throughout all creation. Remaining essentially the same, it adapts itself to the needs of every creature.

In the same way the Holy Spirit apportions grace to each one as is necessary. ... The Spirit's action invites different responses in different people. As Scripture says, 'The spirit reveals his presence in a particular way for the common good'. The Holy Spirit arrives with the tenderness of a true friend and protector to save, to heal, to teach, to counsel, to strengthen, to console. The Holy Spirit arrives to enlighten the mind first of the one who receives Him, and then through him/her, the minds of others as well. Receiving the Holy Spirit enables a person to see beyond the range of human vision, to see reality undreamed of.

Come Holy Spirit: renew the disciples in the mission of Christ.

YOU ARE THE HEART OF THE SHRINE
It is with profound gratitude that we thank all who have supported our Missionary Sisters and the Shrine in these unprecedented times of COVID-19.  The Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart are contemplatives in action. While our doors have not yet reopened. we continue to integrate our prayer life into action by serving our community.  You are the heart of the Shrine in supporting us as we serve those in need. We pray for God's blessing for each of you and those dearest to you.
Have you considered a
Recurring Gift to the Shrine?
A recurring gift is an ongoing specific amount determined by the donor that is charged to their credit card.  The recurring donation allows for a dependable source of support for the Shrine and allows the Shrine to plan more long-term.  The donor chooses how often he or she would like to donate - weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually. If a recurring gift is a viable option for you, please click here.

Questions regarding recurring gifts can be directed to Barb Willis, Development Director at 773-360-5746 or [email protected].

From the bottom of our hearts,
we thank you for your support!
