, What is your brush position?
|
Are you holding your brush in a "death grip"?
As a child, you were taught to hold a pencil by placing your index finger, slightly bent on the top, and then to press the pencil in a squishing motion sandwiching against the thumb.
Instead, hold the brush as shown in the photo with the middle finger and thumb hold the brush, and the index finger is just loosely there for balance.
Try to gently balance the brush in your hand and with fingers relaxed and just enough pressure to keep it firm and in control.

From the rainbow in Honolulu to the fall colors of the east coast, we are drawing close to the end of our journeys. We have seen and met some wonderful places and people.
You have to experience the world and all of its splendor to be able to really put your world on to canvas. Our hope and goal is for you to be able to experience what we have through our paintings, stories and photos.
Please join us as we explore the east coast in the fall of 2019.

Growing As An Academy Artist and What It Means
|
November 2019 marks the third anniversary of my painting journey. For weeks, I just watched Ginger’s YouTube tutorials, never actually believing I’d pick up a brush myself. One day, something clicked inside: “I wonder? I wonder if I could actually paint one of these?” Oh, what a fabulous day when I stepped back from my “masterpiece” to marvel: “Hey, I actually PAINTED that!”.
It was an incredible sense of accomplishment, even though my work was not close to any masterpiece. Last year, I joined the Academy thinking perhaps I might have acquired skills enough to paint some of Ginger’s more challenging tutorials. I just watched for several weeks, then got excited to dive in and paint one of the more difficult lessons.

I am SO happy I have become an Academy member! Ginger gives nuggets of artist gold in each and every tutorial. No matter how far along we are on our personal art journeys, we will always learn something new by watching Ginger Cook’s lessons.
I am really pleased to see just how far I have come since my Ginger Day-1 painting. And, that makes me excited to consider where I will be at this time next year. I am so glad that after a lifetime of serving others as a wife, mom, employee, and volunteer, I chose to invest in myself! Having a membership in Ginger’s Academy is proving to be a really great decision. It is giving me such joy and a sense of accomplishment in doing something I absolutely love.

Well, as luck would have it, we found another employee to join the staff as "Head of Security" We would like to welcome Morgan the Moose to our Merry Band of Artists.
Morgan comes to us from the great state of Maine by way of Nicole and Anthony N. that was so kind to introduce us to him. We felt that we needed a security individual that would be able to travel with us because apparently we are becoming recognizable as we found out when Jane H. found us on the cruise ship.

As the fall is upon us and the winter snows will be blanketing many of our members, we are coming up with more ways to spend your time indoors.
The Academy is going to have some great paintings in the coming months. More ODGs and some more originals by Ginger from the trip photos. You are going to be very busy and this is the best time to be a member of the Academy.
If you would like to be a "Guest Commentator" please use the "
Contact Us
" form on our website and I will give you more information. We would like to make this a regular column. So, be thinking what you would like to share.
As always, thank you for your continued support,
Ginger, Jon, Charlie, Sammy, Chester, Morgan, Ellie, and Snarky
