Unpack & Unwind

The Wompatuck
It may be stick season, but it's a great time to get away and chill out before the holidays arrive.  And, of course, it's not too early to start planning your winter vacation.

There's a new place to stay located just outside the village and right on the VAST trail.  Rock Garden Rentals offers two newly built log cabins that sleep from 6-12 people and offer full kitchens, loft space, secure storage, wifi and outdoor showers (indoor ones, too).  Enjoy off season rates now - December with savings of $75-$150 per night!

Burke View Vacation Home and Villa Rental offers 10 acres of privacy for groups of 4-14 people.  The house features 5 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. The Villa sleeps 4 people and has a laundry room and private, fenced-in backyard.  Both have amazing mountain views and full kitchens  complete with a waffle maker for a true Vermont breakfast.

Located just a few minutes from the mountain, Ring Finger Ranch offers 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and 2 living rooms.  Of course, a family vacation isn't complete without a a fireplace to gather round at the end of the day.

skis Deal of the Month

It's Ski Swap Season!   Be there or be square on November 3rd for the Annual Burke Ski Swap!  There are always great deals to be found on skis, boots, snowboards and more winter gear.  It's a great way to save money and get yourself and the family motivated to get outdoors this winter.  If you're trading up for new items, you can drop off your gently used gear the day before the swap.

Bloggin' from Burke

That's right, we blog.  We have to do something In between blacksmithing, eating pancakes and stacking wood.  From connecting with your dog to raising physically fit kids to designing dresses, we blog about lots of stuff.

Canine know how from  Off the Beaten Trail... What does it mean to "train" a dog? Let's think about that concept for a minute. When you train for a marathon, do you show up for a marathon and hope for the best? When you train for a weight lifting competition, do you show up at the day of the competition and think "I'm pretty strong, I've got this!". ...It is highly unlikely that anyone would show up for any of these somewhat stressful events without in some way, shape, or form, preparing for them ahead of time!    Let's change the wording, for the sake of this post, from "training your dog" to "preparing your dog"...READ MORE

Pet Sitting tales from  Angels with Furry Souls... Sam arrived here today in a royal purple hoodie. I know because my son said so. Being somewhat color blind, I rely on others objective opinions as to what color things are. So, today, it's purple. She has arrived in green and orange as well in the past, but I knew a new hoodie was on the horizon as her current ones were arriving with more holes in it each day. You see, Sam, which is short for Samantha by the way, is a Mastador. For those not familiar with what this is, it's a Mastiff/Labrador cross...READ MORE

Behind the scenes with local fashion designer,  Tara Lynn Scheidet ... Less than a year after her father passed away, the bride-to-be was looking for a symbolic way to feel his presence on her wedding day. Inspired by her late father's nature photography and a vision, she contacted Tara Lynn about making an eco-couture wedding dress. We share with you behind the scenes of making a custom printed wedding
dress from the concept sketch to the print design and the final stitch, affixing a butterfly perched on the skirt of her dress. The magpie became the central focus of her wedding dress...READ MORE

Biking tips from  Kingdom Cycling & Experiences... I've spent a lot of time in the last few years thinking about how to get kids to fall in love with mountain biking. This is something that sparks an interest for me based on my experience biking as a kid, the time that I spend working with kids here at Kingdom Experiences, and my psychology and education majors. So I've compiled five tips to get your kids to LOVE mountain biking: 1. Get them on a DECENT bike that fits!...READ MORE

Training tips for kids From XIP Training... Last month during a workout with Coach Johnson here at XIP, I asked him what he thought were physical skills every young athlete should have?? Both of us are fathers of active young children, and we also grew up in the days of no technology, so we had some fun with our list as we made sure to put an emphasis on skills that "kids these days" just don't seem to have in their tool boxes...READ MORE

Trying something new from the  Rasputitsa folks... Imagine waking in tears everyday for no apparent reason. Imagine your baseline being a state of anxiety. For the last three years, this has been my routine. As an individual with Young Onset Parkinson's Disease, I struggle with depression due to changes in brain chemistry that are caused by the disease itself....Then last year, my friends Zander Ault and Heidi Rentz came to Rasputitsa with an offering of CBD brownies in the neo-hippie style we love them for...READ MORE

Mindful thoughts from Sweetwater Studios ...I recently read an article by Deepak Chopra in which he suggested a mindful meditation to "think in terms of things you can do that benefit you while at the same time connecting with others at a deep level." It seems a timely message during the holiday season. As you think about giving at a time that can seem all too commercialized, imagine giving more of yourself and less of material things...READ MORE
