Peaking!

Peak Foliage Season is upon us. Summer may be over according to the calendar, but you can still enjoy summer recreation while you take in the colors of Autumn. It's the perfect time of year to head on over to Burke and explore. Charge up the camera and take your time venturing around by car, bike, on foot, via canoe or maybe even on horseback.

Deal of the Month

It's a great deal for everyone when there's an opportunity to give back to the community. Here's a chance to clean out your closet and pass on your gently used winterwear to someone else. Through October 4th, H.O.P.E. is collecting new or gently used winter coats, pants, gloves, boots, hats, scarves and more for adults and kids. It's a great way to make good use of items you no longer need and donate them to a great cause.

If you are in need of winterwear, you can stop by the H.O.P.E. Thrift Shop on October 11th for the Winterwear Giveaway where all new and used donated items will be available just in time for the start of a hopefully snowy season.

H.O.P.E. stands for Helping Other People Everyday. H.O.P.E. is a private, nonprofit agency helping families and individuals with life's basic needs. Among other services, they have a backpack program for school-age kids, a diaper bank, summer produce program, winter soup program and more. Thrift shop purchases and donations help fund these and other programs.

You can also sign up to be a sponsor or benefactor and support the organization as they work to help those in need in the community.

Unpack & Unwind

Lodging choices abound in the area whether you want a cabin in the woods or a room at the Inn.

Riverbend Cabins offers cozy log cabins tucked away on a quiet road. It's a great location that's just a quick drive to Kingdom Trails, hiking trails and lakes. Each cabin has 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, washer/dryer, plenty of private, outdoor space and more.

Stasie's Place in East Burke offers a private suite within an owner-occupied home. The rented portion includes two bedrooms as well as a parlor with a breakfast area. It's located right in the village so you can walk to shops and restaurants.

The Wildflower offers stunning pastoral views and direct access to the popular cross-country trails at Kingdom Trails. Bike rentals and guided tours are offered next door. The Inn offers 25 rooms along with an on-site restaurant and pub.

MORE LODGING...

Enjoy the View!

There are lots of ways to check out the foliage including a scenic drive up the Toll Road where you'll find hiking trails and a fire tower to climb if you so choose. Burke Mountain will also be offering scenic chairlift rides for aerial views.

For water views, head to Clyde River Recreation for self-guided paddling trips.

To check out the colors with an equine friend, contact D-N-D Stables for guided trail rides.

Of course, you can head to Kingdom Trails for some biking through the woods or venture out on one of the many hiking trails to see it all from a mountain peak.

A great way to have some family fun with a view is with some low-key backyard golf at Grandad's 9 hole course in Newark. If you prefer 18 holes, check out the Barton Golf Club featuring 360 degree views of colorful mountain peaks. And, definitely head to Kingdom Corn Maze for weekend fun including pumpkin picking, wagon rides and more.
