It took a little while for winter to arrive, but there's plenty of white stuff now and school vacation week in Vermont is coming right up! Get outta your own house and explore your home state with a visit to Burke. Come for a day or a week, bring your mask and adventure safely (it's pretty easy to keep social distance in these parts). Burke Mountain is open as is Kingdom Trails and snowmobile trails throughout the region. Head into the wilds of the backcountry trails or head onto the frozen stillness of Lake Willoughby for some ice fishing. After a day outdoors, bring your rosy cheeks over to The Orange Rind and enjoy a cocktail and a nosh in the outdoor, heated gazebo or order up some take-out from the Foggy Goggle and enjoy dinner in front of the wood stove.
Thank you for supporting our small businesses and respecting the health of our community.

Deal of the Month
Time on the slopes doesn't have to mean breaking the bank. We are very fortunate in this area to have the Lyndon Outing Club which offers a family friendly and affordable skiing option for everyone to enjoy. The LOC is a non-profit skiing and recreation asset that relies on volunteers to run it and Mother Nature to provide the snow.
The LOC was started in 1937 by a group of Lyndon residents and it is one of the only remaining ski areas in Vermont with a functioning rope tow. The club also offers the only night skiing in the Northeast Kingdom.
Trails for all ability levels from novice to expert are available and the rates can't be beat!
- Adults/High School students = $15
- 8th Grade and under = $10
- Rope Tow only = $5
- 6 Ticket Punch Pass = $50
Visit their facebook page for trail conditions, special events and more.

Whether you're here to pop the question or enjoy a family getaway, lodging choices abound in and around Burke.
What could be more romantic than spending a couple of nights in a mansion? The Burklyn Mansion is now The Inn at Burklyn offering luxury rooms, suites and manor bedrooms. The over 100 year history of the grand estate is honored throughout the rooms with the decor and attention to detail. Your stay includes a gourmet breakfast and for the gents, you can even order a personal barbershop experience.
Located just outside of the village, Burke Sugar Shack offers a peaceful, trailside location with mountain views. The rental offers room for 6, a full kitchen, spacious outdoor space and some funky artwork in the comfy home.
Located on a former sheep farm, Wooly Buggah Barn is a beautifully renovated barn featuring reclaimed woodwork, a full kitchen, and a spiral staircase leading to two loft bedrooms. It's tucked away on a quiet road, but is just a quick drive to the slopes and trails.
Featuring 5 bedrooms and cathedral ceilings, KT Cabin has room for the whole family. The cabin has a spacious chef's kitchen, gameroom (with foosball!), fire pit, washer/dryer and more. It's just a quick walk to East Burke Village.

Good News & Good Deeds
In true Vermont fashion, lots of folks have stepped up to give back to the community during these very challenging times.
Our favorite local baker, Auntiee Dee Dee and the folks from Burke Publick House have been busy during the pandemic contributing to the Everyone Eats program which provides meals to residents facing food insecurity issues.
Earlier this summer, One Burke, with help from local woodworker, Doug Clarner, also responded to the need for local free food resources by setting up the Sunshine Box in West Burke. It's available 24/7 and is always stocked with non-perishable foods.
Over the holidays, the staff and students at Burke Mountain Academy helped out H,O.P.E. by packing up lots of gifts to fulfill Christmas wish lists of families experiencing hardships. They also donated snacks and other items to the backpack program for food insecure kids and they sent off holiday cards to residents of a local nursing home!
The Kingdom Trail Association and Vermont Land Trust came together to save 271 acres of land on Darling Hill Road for the community and visitors. They had lots of help including funding from the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board, an anonymous gift of $150,000, and contributions from over 740 local businesses and community members. Thanks to these combined efforts, KT was recently able to purchase the land. READ MORE...
