Permanent exhibition of “ Cinque Lives Here” tells the Amistad story. In this room are found the most significant collection of material from the Amistad affair. The portrait of Cinque and the painting of the ship, a letter from Kale, one of the captives, and a letter from John Quincy Adams to the captives, allow the visitor to see the actual items of that day. The portrait of Cinque by New Haven painter Nathaniel Jocelyn is generally understood to be the first and one of the finest portrayals of an African in American art.

2/18 5:30 p.m. Lecture – Edward Alexander Bouchet
In 1876, New Haven resident Edward Alexander Bouchet became the first African American to earn a doctorate degree in the United States. On Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at 5:30 p.m., playwright Calvin Alexander Ramsey will visit the New Haven Museum to share Bouchet’s little-known story and emphasize the steadfast support of his parents and members of the New Haven community along the way. Admission is free.
Lunarfest 2020
February 8 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Lunarfest is a celebration of the Lunar New Year and Chinese culture, offering arts and cultural programs for adults and children throughout the city of New Haven and at Yale. This event is free and open to all!

Save the date for the big day on Saturday, February 8, 2020, which kicks off with a Lion Dance parade at 10:00 AM down Church Street and Whitney Avenue. Then head indoors to visit many or all of our venues with special activities and programs featuring food, art, music, literature, and dance.
