A Fabulous Fall Ahead!
Hello, Knightdale! I hope you enjoyed your summer vacation. While it's technically still summer, our students are gearing up for a new school year, and we are continuing to work on great ways to make our town even better! I wanted to share some events that happened in Knightdale this summer, as well as a few things going on with our citizens and community.

Town Council Members and Administration Welcome Students Back to School!
The first day of school isn't just a big day for Knightdale youth; it's a great day for the entire community! As such, I, along with Mayor Pro Tem Ben McDonald and Town Manager Bill Summers, joined community organizations Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc., in welcoming Knightdale High School students back to school.
As a community, we celebrate our students, teachers, and all those who make education possible. I'm grateful to everyone who came out to join us, and a big round of applause to the incredible minds shaping our future!
Knightdale Hosts Its First
African American Festival
| |
Knightdale hosted its first African American Festival in honor of Juneteenth on Saturday, June 17, from 4 pm until 9 pm to a record setting crowd. The event was co-sponsored by ChoiceFM and the Knightdale-Wake Forest Education Foundation.
The entire town had a great time! I was excited to see Mayor Pro Tem Ben McDonald, Councilor Mark Swan, Councilor Latatious Morris, Councilor Steve Evan, Representative James Roberson, and Wake County Commissioner Chair Shinica Thomas were among the esteemed guests present at the festival.
| |
Over 6,000 people attended the festival throughout the day. Musical guests included national recording artist Tony Terry, the Jus Once Gogo Band, and Tevis Harris & faVor. Spoken Word artist Bettina Pope and line dancing instructor Robbin Sutton also graced the event. Thank you to all of the festival attendees, local vendors and all Knightdale employees who helped make this event a success. I can't wait for next year's festival!
Knightdale Celebrates Annual
Fourth of July Event
| Knightdale celebrated its annual Fourth on First event on July 4 this summer, and this year's turnout was amazing! I always appreciate the patriotic spirit our citizens display as they celebrate Independence Day with red, white and blue at Knightdale Station Park. | This year we were graced with the smooth sounds of the Chairmen of the Board. The crowd had a great time dancing (even in the heat!) and enjoying refreshments and activities from a variety of vendors that also attended. | |
Despite a few challenges at the end of the event that were quickly addressed by our first responders, our annual July 4 event was a success. I send thanks to Mayor Pro Tem Ben McDonald, Knightdale Parks and Recreation, Public Works, our Public Safety teams, and everyone who helped make the day run as smoothly as possible.

Boy Scouts Lead the Pledge at
Town Council Meeting
| |
At our July Town Council Meeting, we were fortunate to have scouts from three separate unit (Scouts BSA, Troop 365G, and Troop 365B) join us from Cub Scout Pack 365 to lead the Pledge of Allegiance . All three units were charted by the Two Green Thumbs Garden Club of Knightdale in 2002. Troop 365 has a separate male and female unit, while Pack 365 is a coed unit serving youth from ages 5 to 10 years old.
Thank you all so much for your service!

Knightdale Welcomes New Town Employee | At our July Town Council Meeting we welcomed our latest member of the Knightdale Fire Department, Juan Padron! Juan was one of six members that joined the department this summer. The addition of these firefighters gives us a fully staffed fire unit, and I couldn't be happier about that! Thank you for your service, and welcome to Knightdale!
The Town of Knightdale just refreshed its website, and it looks great! With new graphics and easier navigation, the site is now more engaging than ever!
I hope you can join me at the following Town events!
Knightdale's Arts and Education Festival
I hope you'll join us on August 19 for our Arts & Education Festival from 10 am to 1 pm! We'll be giving away backpacks and school supplies, and there will be food trucks, kids events and so much more for you and your family to enjoy. Plan to come out to Knightdale Station Park and enjoy the event with us!
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about anything going on in our amazing town of Knightdale!
