May Your Days Be Merry and Bright!

Hello, Knightdale! Season's greetings to all! With this being the last newsletter of the year, I want to wish everyone a wonderful winter holiday and prosperous New Year! I wanted to share a few things that happened over the past month with our citizens and community.

Knightdale Hosts Swearing In Ceremony for Mayor and Town Council

Earlier this month I was sworn in again as Mayor of Knightdale! I'm truly honored and humbled to serve in this position for another term. I never take for granted the trust that Knightdale citizens choose to put in me as the mayor, and I am sincerely grateful for it. It was even more humbling to be sworn in by NC Representative and former Knightdale mayor, James Roberson.

Members of the Town Council were also sworn in for another term. Councilors Ben McDonald and Stephen Morgan took oaths to continue serving the citizens of Knightdale. I'm grateful for their service, and I look forward to leading our town toward more growth and prosperity!

Mayor Day Talks to Queens in the Making

It's so important to me to empower young women and girls in our community. That's why I was excited to speak at The Queen In Me crowning event!

This was the first annual event for the organization that seeks to instill self-confidence values in young girls. This year the event focused on topics including the significance of self-love, overcoming vision blockers, pursuing dreams and goals, and understanding the power of positive thinking and speaking.

Thank you to The Queen in Me founder, Shonda Smith, for the invitation to speak to the young ladies! I know the future is bright for them all!

Youth in the Community Cook with Mayor Day

I had a WONDERFUL time participating in a kid's cooking class sponsored by Renita McPherson of Essie's Delights! Community events like this always make me smile, especially when they involve Knightdale youth. It's exciting to think that they're learning and being creative with a skillset that may spark a future career in culinary arts!

Thanks so much for having me! Keep baking those goodies!

Knightdale Hosts Its First Annual

State of the Town Event

We in Knightdale have talked about hosting an event like this for a couple of years, and this year we made it happen! I'm elated that we presented our State of the Town event at the Life Enrichment Center. The event was well-attended by Knightdale citizens, Town employees and elected officials all across Wake County!

Our theme was "Start Something," and I presented the keynote speech discussing the Town's accomplishments from this year. I also talked about major initiatives that will be coming up in the coming year and beyond.

During the event our Development Services Department presented the 2023 Community Appearance Award Winners, who were: The Depot on First, The Pink Magnolia, and Knightdale Marketplace Murals Shoppes at Midway Drive (Sean Kernick, artist, and M&J Wilkow, owner). Congratulations to all of you for your dedication to keeping Knightdale beautiful!

Thank you SO MUCH to Bill Holmes and the Knightdale High School Jazz Band, Phillip Langston and everyone at the Life Enrichment Center, Cake Town Bakery, Essie's Delights, Chef Cedruick Gamble at A Taste of France, and EVERYONE who came out to the event. We look forward to doing it again next year!

Mayor Day Finishes Term as Wake County Mayors Association President

I'm grateful to have just completed my term as the Wake County Mayors Association president.

Over the past year, I led the organization of mayors from all 12 municipalities in Wake County in discussions about best practices in our respective areas. I'm grateful to have been a part of a group of service-focused leaders who appreciate working together for the common good of everyone in our county. The Wake County Mayors Association truly embodies synergy and unity.

Congratulations to Zebulon Mayor, Glenn York, who will be next year's WCMA President!

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about anything going on in our amazing town of Knightdale!
