SUBJECT: September is Attendance Awareness Month & District-Wide Attendance Competition
Hello School Administrators,
September is School Attendance Awareness Month. During this month, we come together to promote the importance of everyday attendance at our schools through special events and activities designed to both inspire and educate our students.
This month also marks the launch of our district-wide attendance campaign called “Attend Like a Champion!” To celebrate and promote everyday student attendance, the Office of Child Welfare and Attendance (CWA) will be sponsoring an Olympics themed attendance competition. The schools that have the best and most improved attendance for the fall semester will receive gold, silver, and bronze medals to display and share with their school communities. The competition will kick off in September and last the entire fall semester. For more information and a flyer to share with your school community, please visit: https://www.pusd.us/Page/9510. A Spanish language flyer has been added.
Note: CWA will exclude all absences due to student quarantine (i.e., coded as “X”) from the final results of the competition.
In addition to the district-wide competition, CWA will also be providing best practices and grade appropriate classroom strategies to schools on a weekly basis throughout September. These will be activities and strategies that teachers can use directly with their students in their classroom or advisory to help promote regular attendance.
