October 2024

Dear Friends,

Leadership development is a particularly powerful component of educating for the future. As we recently began another dynamic academic year, I was struck by the many ways in which the cultivation of strong leaders permeates Muskingum’s work.

Not only is Muskingum offering high quality leadership development to adult learners through our Applied Leadership Programs, but Dr. Robert McManus and Dr. Henry Stanford are providing leadership training for students in multiple venues. Whether they are working with Student Life on preparing resident assistants, welcome weekend leaders, and organizational leaders, working with Athletics on team leadership, or providing a Leadership Academy for all interested students, the impact of this work is felt across the campus.

Our faculty and staff also have opportunities to engage in leadership development. Led by Center for Teaching and Learning Director, Tiffany Herder, new faculty participate in a comprehensive orientation, and then join all faculty during their annual fall conference. Many of our offices have planning retreats over the summer, so their teams are ready to lead and support the educational mission of the University. Workshops and specialized leadership training are offered throughout the year. This work makes a significant difference as we create a place where every community member can thrive.

Our alumni also play an important role in developing strong leaders for the future. Through participation in campus learning activities like the Khanna Career Connections Conference, Leadership Academy, and classroom conversations, alumni are contributing in powerful ways to the development of the leaders of the future. The Long Magenta Line is thriving from these leadership experiences, which are evident in the exceptional way our alumni serve in the workplace and the community.

With deep appreciation for each one of you and warm wishes for a wonderful fall,

President Sue Hasseler
