July 2023

Dear Friends,

“Student success is at the heart of everything you do.” This wonderful observation came from the recent Higher Learning Commission (HLC) final report as they reaffirmed our accreditation for the next ten years.

The HLC Reviewers went on to say that “the integration of mission into everything you do is nothing short of amazing,” that Muskingum has a “deep and wide desire to serve students...the students get it, know it, and feel it“ and that “the centrality of students is beautiful to see.”

Similar themes emerged from the Two-Year External Evaluation review of our $2.2 million federal Department of Education Title III Strengthening Institutions Grant. They noted that “the response to student needs is extraordinarily well-integrated across the University “and that “students echo that they see, feel, and experience everything that is part of the goals of this grant program.”

As we prepare for the upcoming Fall Semester, our entire campus is energized by opportunities a new year brings to continue to serve students faithfully and well. I hope you enjoy this issue's stories about the research, travel, and other experiences that have shaped a productive summer as we continue to educate the whole student for the whole world together.

With best wishes,

President Sue Hasseler
