Dear Friends,
As our undergraduate students began to settle in on campus for the new academic year, I had the wonderful opportunity to spend time with our Resident Assistants and the many other student leadership groups who were among the first to arrive. It is a joy to see how the varied co-curricular leadership opportunities we provide enhance our students’ experiences and help prepare them for career, community, and personal success after graduation.
We are building on our long tradition of developing leaders with the launch of our Applied Leadership program, which includes Muskingum’s first doctorate degree. The fully-online masters and doctorate programs emphasize real-world problem-solving that students can immediately apply in their careers.
Welcoming new faculty, staff, and coaches to our campus provided yet another opportunity for reflection about leadership, and how we develop students as leaders on the campus, in the community, and beyond.
It was truly an honor to recently be recognized with a Smart 50 award, which acknowledged the tremendous impact that Muskingum makes on our region, as well as our leadership in ensuring affordability and access to students of all backgrounds.
That leadership has once again been recognized by U.S. News & World Report which has named Muskingum #1 in Ohio in both Best Value Schools and Top Performers in Social Mobility.
I hope you enjoy this issue’s stories about the opening of the 2023-2024 academic year and the beginning of our fall semester, and I look forward to seeing many of you at Magenta Homecoming!
With best wishes,
President Sue Hasseler
