During this celebration, many influential community leaders were recognized and awarded for their substantial involvement in our communities. The recipient of the Frederick County 2012 MLK Award was Jan H. Gardner. Jan H. Gardner is the former Frederick County Board of Commissioners President; her commitment to social justice and her dedication to public service throughout the years give us the honor her with this prestigious award. The keynote speaker for this year was Mr. Barry Stanton who spoke about the impact of Dr. King's life on his life. Mr. Stanton is the first African American county Manager in Frederick County, MD. He credited Dr. King's work on his accomplishment.  The second half of the day included several service-learning projects such as crafts and stamp-making stations and other opportunities for the whole family. We're gearing up for another round of the International Model United Nations Summer Camp in July.  The dates for the camp are Sunday July 15th to Saturday July 28th, 2012.  A tentative schedule for the event can be found here.  So far we have had numerous responses and a confirmation from Centro Educacional Leonardo da Vinci - Vitria, ES, Brazil, the Heritage School from India just to mention a few.  We are continuing to contact more schools. We are working on contacting some more Latin-American schools to try to add to our growing number of international students.  We have had a high level of response from students in China, India and Egypt. Executive Director Guy Djoken has been traveling over the globe to promote the program. Upcoming trips includes Turkey, Egypt, Mexico and Russia.
We are happy to anounce a partnership with EduSerc to drive the IMUN program development in areas of STEM. This will enable delegates to apply their skills in various areas within Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
Invitations have been sent to Mark Zuckerburg to address the delegates on social media and how it can be used as an effective tool for world peace, social justice and democracy.  We also hope to visit the Google Headquarters in New York this year. We have extended the deadline for applications to March 30. The Gala will provide a venue for a unique cultural experience of all the countries led by the First Ladies. The Youth Expo will exhibit creative technologies, solutions and entrepreneurial ideas of the young adults that stimulate economic growth, assist in health and agricultural initiatives as well as media, arts and entertainment.
