The 23rd annual Harvest Ball was held on September 14, 2019 on Valley Children’s Hospital’s South Lawn. Many of the community’s most generous philanthropists were in attendance to support the mission of Valley Children’s at this signature gala. We are excited to announce that this event raised more than $1 million to support the children we serve. We are so grateful to the many people who made this incredible evening possible!
The Simulation Program at Valley Children’s allows our care teams to be immersed in a realistic training environment to prepare them to best serve patients with the most complex illnesses or injuries, particularly when time is of the essence. Because of a transformational commitment of $1 million by Marvin and Janell Boldt, the Simulation Program will soon add staff and equipment to increase their capacity to provide more training for clinical staff. Across many pediatric subspecialties, simulation training makes a direct and lifesaving impact on the care we provide. Because of the Boldts’ generosity, we can continue to pursue the very best outcomes for children through simulation training. Thank you to The Legacy Foundation for their most recent gift of $300,000 to support Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency Program affiliated with Stanford University School of Medicine. The gift will sponsor one pediatric resident plus provide additional support to the program. The Legacy Foundation Fund has donated $1.3 million in total to support both the Pediatric Residency Program and the Childhood Cancer Survivorship Program since 2014. We are very grateful for The Legacy Foundation’s ongoing generous support of Valley Children’s and the children we serve.
The 21st annual Radiothon was held on September 4-6, 2019. We are excited to announce that the community generously donated an incredible $163,951! We are so grateful to everyone who made this total possible: the sponsors, volunteers and the many generous donors who called in or texted over the past three days. We are so thankful for the Central Valley’s support as we work to care for the more than 1.3 million children who live in our service area. Thank you to our generous sponsors: Valley First Credit Union, Black Bear Diner and Own A Car Fresno.

The Childhood Cancer Survivorship Program hosted their annual Childhood Cancer Survivorship Conference in September. This year’s theme was “Survivors Taking Action: Discovering the Power of Your Voice.” Of the more than 120 people in attendance, nearly 40 were survivors.

Attendees heard from keynote speakers from CHLA’s Survivorship Program, from a parent of a pediatric cancer survivor and from an oncology support services organization, Second Star to the Right (an organization that supports children with cancer and their families in the Kern County area). Three survivors shared their experiences through treatment and remission in addition to the stories shared by the survivors who participated in th e PhotoVoice project ( click here to view the video). “Hearing the survivors’ stories was fantastic because every journey is different,” said Angelina Garcia who is also a survivor.

We are so thankful to our community for their support of the Childhood Cancer Survivorship Program. Because of donations from our generous donors, this program is able to grow and provide more services to more survivors.
