Message from the Interim Chair

As I take on this new role as Interim Chair of the Department of Family medicine, I reflect on the great privilege it is to be a family doctor in Canada, and am honoured to be taking on the challenges of leading the Faculty of Medicine's largest clinical department. As family doctors, we can have a tremendous impact by caring, curing and connecting with our patients, their families and the community.

The Academic and Leadership Support Fund - Apply Today!

The fund is intended to recognize and support physicians who are involved in the training of our Family Medicine residents and medical students by providing them with an opportunity to further their continued education and/or enhance their leadership skills in as much as it relates to their academic role within the Department. To be eligible for either fund, applicants must be a member of the Department of Family Medicine with an academic appointment for at least two years. The deadline to apply is September 1, 2019 at 9 am.
Dr. Daniel Burd , PGY2 at the Civic, was acknowledged by a staff physician during his emergency medicine rotation for his excellent and impressive work.
Dr. Haroun Zayed, PGY3 in Emergency Medicine, was awarded the Resident Teacher of the Year Award from the Department of Emergency Medicine.

The DFM is pleased to announce that two exceptional uOttawa medical students have been awarded the 2019 DFM Global Health Travel Bursary. Michael Pratte is currently in Shanghai to participate in the third summer school of the Medicine and the Humanities International Program (MHIP) with approximately 30 other students from China, Canada and France. In November, David Lavoie will spend a month in West Africa with Projet Bénin. Congratulations to our recipients!
The Ontario eConsult Centre of Excellence is hiring!

The Ontario eConsult Centre of Excellence is seeking a dynamic primary care physician to engage with other primary care physicians and leaders across Ontario, develop strategies for eConsult adoption, and contribute to ongoing policy development. Part-time, 8 hours/week. Contract to March 31, 2020 with opportunity for extension. Competitive salary. Some travel required. Become a Code 99 Physician

The  Code 99 program  encourages and facilitates physicians, faculty, students and trainees to obtain a family physician.  View a letter from Dr. Elizabeth Muggah, Assistant Dean of Faculty Wellness, about the program . Family physicians interested in providing care to colleagues are invited to complete the  registration form  and submit it to the Faculty Wellness Program at  wellness@uottawa.ca .
Requesting better engagement of Family Doctors in the creation of Ontario Health Teams

Minutes from the June 13 meeting on the creation of Ontario Health Teams are  available online . Two action items arose from this meeting:

  1. Add your name to a letter to the Minister of Health. Please contact kpremji@bruyere.org by July 22 if you wish to add your name.
  2. Complete a survey to identify the top three issues that create frustrations in your daily practice and what idea(s) you might have for how to address this.
Register for the CMPA Faculty Development Workshop

Register now for the CMPA Faculty Development Workshop on September 25 from 5:30 pm to 8:15 pm at the Brookstreet Hotel . This free 2-hour accredited workshop complements the CMPA Resident Symposium , with the goal of supporting residents as they develop lifelong competencies that promote safe medical care.
