The joy of a new baby never gets old! In this photo Farmer Blake milks colostrum by hand from fresh mama Shay, while new calf Sharky awaits her first bottle on wobbly little legs.
A calf's first meal is colostrum. Colostrum is a mother's first milk after giving birth. It contains vital nutrients for newborn calves and is high in antibodies to help calves develop their immune and digestive systems. Hardy immune systems protects calves from disease. And by feeding the colostrum to the calf by bottle, we know she is getting the volume she needs.
Baby Sharky (do, do, do-do-do 😉) enjoyed her first meal, and she and mom Shay are doing swimmingly! Welcome to the farm, Sharky! You're going to love it here!

Folks of a certain age, drink your milk! AARP Magazine recently released its Superfood Smackdown, which compared the nutritional value of dairy milk to plant-based alternatives.
It's no surprise to us that DAIRY MILK was the clear winner over almond, oat and soy milks.
Real milk just can't be beat when it comes to the nutritional needs of older adults. Protein and calcium are paramount, AARP says, noting milk alternatives often can't replace those crucial nutrients. Cheers to dairy milk!

Angela Schwartz is a longtime and frequent shopper at our Waterloo store.
In a household with five children, dairy products disappear quickly from the family's refrigerator.
"The Dairy Deluxe Bundle is a weekly buy for our family. We love all of the items, from butter to ice cream," Angela says.
Buying local is important to the family, she says, noting "we want the highest quality and the freshest things with the least amount of chemicals." Angela particularly likes the fact that we never use growth hormones on our cows.
Thanks, Angela! Customers of the Month receive a $5 gift certificate to use at our stores and two free hands-on tour passes to the farm (a $40 value). You could be chosen by filling out an entry form at our stores or through your comments on our Facebook, Instagram and X pages.

She's unconventionally pretty. A real girl next door. She's Miss September.
Miss, our Cow of the Month, isn't the fanciest gal in the herd, but she's steady and calm. No fuss, no muss.
At 3 years old, Miss is producing 115 pounds of milk per day. That's above average among her herd mates.
She's a joy to work with and is a big, tall cow who comes by her size honestly, herd manager Blake says.
"She's always stuffing feed in her mouth. If we're looking for her in the barn, we go to the lunchroom first. She's probably filling up on silage."
