Grievance Timelines Suspended
Doctor's Note Requirements Extended
Hello ,

During this stressful time period, we have been working with AACPS Management to make a few small changes that we feel will have a huge impact on working conditions as we await decisions regarding the future of the remainder of the school year.
  • Grievances - SAAAAC and the Board agree to hold Article 2, Grievance Procedures, in suspense. This means that timelines associated with the filing of contractual violations is "paused". This change does not prevent SAAAAC from submitting a grievance nor the Board from issuing a grievance decision during this period.
  • Doctor's Notes - As you are aware, many doctor’s offices are not seeing patients without an appointment. Many cannot keep up with documentation requests at this time. Given the stress on the healthcare system, and the challenges in getting appointments, we are hoping to change our practice for employees who are not seriously ill (non-COVID) which will modify the three day doctor note requirement. As an initial measure, the SAAAAC and the Board have agreed that we allow employees to be out for five days, instead of three, without a doctor’s note. Effective now through April 30, 2020.

WE DO NOT HAVE ANY SPECIFIC DETAILS REGARDING COMPENSATION OR OTHER ASPECTS OF THE CONTINUED CLOSURE THAT WAS ANNOUNCED ON YESTERDAY. AS WE OBTAIN DETAILS, WE WILL CONTINUE TO INFORM YOU.

If you have specific, individual concerns, please email or call me. I am available (and in contact with AACPS Officials) to assist you.

As we continue to make our way through this unprecedented time period, it is the goal of SAAAAC, in conjunction with AACPS, to ensure the safety of all employees and ensure a minimal financial impact during this stressful time period.
Sincerely,
Bradley Darjean, UniServ Director
