Dear Lakesiders,

In an effort to keep you up to date, the Lakeside Chautauqua Board, staff and Pool & Wellness Project Team want to inform you abut the recent progress of the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus. Y ou'll also find the Board-approved 2017 Chautauqua Pass information and a snapshot of some of the exciting entertainment you can look forward to in Hoover Auditorium.

Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus Construction - All Zoning Approved
Lakeside Chautauqua has all of the official approvals for the project from Danbury Township and the Lakeside Historic Preservation & Design Review Board to commence construction. The site has been surveyed again and has been staked out. Soon, c ontractors will begin to move equipment and place a protective safety fence around the construction site.

We plan to officially break ground following Thanksgiving in order to meet the anticipated opening date of early July 2017. We will share lots of photos as the construction begins.

2017 Chautauqua Passes
Each November, the Finance Committee begins the budget review process for the upcoming year and determines  the sources of revenue that will be needed to support the Chautauqua program

In addition to the regular budget, the Committee also needed to develop a plan to support the annual operations of the new Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus. To this end, Finance Committee Chair David  Blank appointed a team of Board and community members to review the expenses and potential revenues to support the pool and wellness facility. The team, which includes Mike Brown, Jennifer Gehrlein, Kurt Geisheimer, Bob Grimm, David Blank and Dan Dudley, met numerous  times throughout the last several months to develop expense and revenue models.

First, the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus will be available to all those who enter our gates with the purchase of a Daily Chautauqua Pass or Season Chautauqua Pass. Your pass will include access to the pool, waterslides, equipment rooms and class spaces during the Chautauqua season.

Last summer, we shared that to fully fund the operations of the pool and wellness facility Lakeside would likely need to increase the cost of an Adult Daily Chautauqua Pass anywhere from $0.75 to $1.00, additive to our typical annual increase of roughly 3%.

After significant discussion, the subcommittee recommended to the Board an increase of $0.75 in the Adult Daily Chautauqua Pass and $30.00 in the Adult Season Chautauqua Pass. The Youth Daily Chautauqua Pass would be increased by $0.50 a day and $20.00 for the Youth Season Chautauqua Pass. Children will have access to the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus free of charge.

It was the determination of the Committee that this is the fairest way to spread the costs of the pool operations and avoid moving into a model of al la carte pricing for various activities in Lakeside.

In addition to the increase supporting the pool and wellness operations, the Board also passed a modest increase of $0.75 per Adult Daily Chautauqua Pass, and $0.50 per Youth Daily Chautauqua Pass for the 2017 season. The Board also passed a modest increase for the Adult Season Chautauqua Pass by $20.00 and the Youth Season Chautauqua Pass by $10.00.

In summary including both increases, the Adult Daily Chautauqua Pass will be $22.75 and the Youth Daily Chautauqua Pass will be $15.00 for the 2017 Chautauqua season. An Adult Season Chautauqua Pass will be $710.00 and the Youth Season Chautauqua Pass is $410.00 (purchased before May 31, 2017).

After the 2017 Chautauqua season concludes, the indoor wellness center will remain open for use by Lakeside homeowners for $25 per month.

As discussed throughout the past year, the Finance Committee is establishing in the 2017 budget a future maintenance fund to handle maintenance emergencies for all Lakeside facilities. Lakeside will continue to add to the fund each year thereafter.
