Clackamas Fire Mt. Scott Station
9339 SE Causey Ave
Happy Valley, OR 97086
Speaker 1: Rick Gruen, Manager w/ County Parks & Forest and Forest Economic Development - Rick will present on Cross Laminated Timber, emerging industry trends, forest management & forest policies associated with this proposed project. Rick will also talk about the recently submitted project to US Forest Service that focuses on the concept of "purpose-driven" timber sales as way to mitigate current forest management policies while also increasing the supply of raw materials (logs) flowing into the mills from our federally owned forest lands. There are some significant economic impacts that would have positive benefits to both urban and rural communities resulting from an increased supply of timber and timber revenues received by Oregon counties.
Speaker 2: Brooke Berglund, Business & Labor Outreach Mgr w/ Port of Portland.
Brooke will be presenting on the acquisition of Terminal 6 and their new strategy to restore carrier service for Oregon and Pacific NW shippers.

Your Chamber Legislative Updates
Chamber Day at the Capitol was insightful and we truly appreciate our Legislators that took time out of their busy day to meet with us: Senators Lee Beyer, Ted Ferrioli, Betsy Johnson, Chuck Thompsen and Representatives Mike McLane, Bill Kennemer, Julie Parrish & Mark Meek.
Five representatives of this Chamber were present and I also thank you for taking the time to go with us to represent North Clackamas! YOUR support means everything! Mile Fiberglass, Blount, Double J Construction, AMR and Ernie Platt.
OSCC Week 8 update encapsulates almost everything that we heard and talked about! Well almost! They are still working on the budget and asking our State to "stop spending what you don't have" and it is being made abundantly clear that our State is still trying to be the "HR department" to our business community!
Predictive Scheduling - SB 828; still a monster we need to defeat! Removes all flexibility for - any and all - employers who currently have flexible work schedules with their employee's. Yes, ALL employer's.
Paid Family Leave - House Bill 3087; proposes a new 1% tax (combined) on employer & employee's. The funds go into a pool - when it runs out it runs out. So employee's who have paid their .5% tax into it - by time you need it and want to use it - it may have already run out! What??!!!
"Pay Equity" Bill - HB2005; isn't there already a law on discriminating against this? Do we need a new law to help make trial lawyers rich?
Senate Bill 984; would overturn BOLI's recent interpretation that manufacturing employers are subject to both the state's 10-hour daily overtime rate and the federal 40-hour weekly overtime rate.
Senate Bill 997; penalize employers with 50 or more employees if any employees working 20 or more hours per week are not privately covered with employer-sponsored health insurance.
Senate Bill 487; This bill increases non-economic damage awards in personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits. It will have major repercussions on health care providers as well as the commercial liability market.
Senate Bill 1034;
This bill will help Oregonian college graduates burdened by student debt. The "Millennial Education Act" fixes Oregon's tax code to make student debt payments completely tax-free.

Oregon City Chamber of Commerce, Amber Holveck has tendered resignation
As the Chair of the Board it is with mixed emotions I share that after nearly twelve years as Executive Director with the Oregon City Chamber of Commerce, Amber Holveck has tendered her resignation.
We are excited that she and her family will be making a move back to her childhood home near Roseburg, OR. Her husband is following his love of teaching back into the classroom and together will begin taking over her family's farm.
Her anticipated departure is expected June 30, 2017. The Board of Directors is developing a plan for a smooth transition for our members, staff and community partners. We will keep you posted regarding our search for a new Executive Director.
As you can imagine there is a significant transition before us. Your Chamber Board of Directors and staff will need your support, encouragement and understanding during this transition. Please volunteer whenever you can! We have several opportunities now and throughout the summer - City Walk, Golf Scramble, Oregon Trail Bike & Brew, and more.
Finally, the Oregon City Chamber Board of Directors and I wish Amber and her family all the best for a prosperous future!
Warm regards,
Susan Perry
Chair of the Board

ODOT 82nd Avenue Projects -SE Lindy Street to Mount Scott Creek Bridge
SE 82nd Avenue is an important transportation route that serves the Clackamas Regional Center, an area heavily used by commuters and shoppers. The highway needs to be repaved and also lacks sidewalks and sidewalk ramps at several major intersections. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will improve SE 82nd Avenue between SE Lindy Street and Mount Scott Creek Bridge for all users by repaving the highway and installing sidewalk ramps at intersections to make it easier for everyone to get where they need to go.
