St. Catharine Academy held a Groundbreaking Ceremony on Tuesday, June 12, at 4 p.m. to mark the beginning of construction on its new lobby and entranceway facing Laconia Avenue. Construction is expected to be completed by April 2019. The ceremony included SCA administrators, donors to the Capital Campaign, and students, as well as local leaders. They donned hardhats and took a moment to “break ground” with shovels before the official construction which is slated to begin on July 23, 2018.
The new entranceway will serve as one of the most visual pieces of St. Catharine's Capital Campaign projects, which includes the 21
st century technology initiative, support for SCA’s Robotics program, changes to make St. Catharine Academy more handicapped accessible including an elevator, and upgrades to security. The entranceway will act as a central location connecting the separate wings of the school building while enhancing the overall safety and security of the school. This Capital Campaign is St Catharine's first, sincere locating to the Bronx in 1953.
