Pasadena, Texas, January 25, 2024 – The Pasadena Economic Development Corporation (PEDC) and the City of Pasadena, TX will break ground on an expansion and renovation of the Pasadena Arena & Convention Center at 10am on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.
“We are thrilled to break ground on this project. The citizens of Pasadena have spoken, and we are making it happen," said City of Pasadena Mayor Jeff Wagner.
The project stems from community partner input recorded in PEDC's Economic Development Strategic Plan (2018, updated 2023) with a recommendation to "reimagine renovations and additions to the Convention Center." The renovations and expansion to the facility will deliver this and more.
“With this innovative project, the new Arena will be able to accommodate larger-scale conventions and bring world-class entertainment to Pasadena elevating the City's stature as a growth sphere for dynamic economic activity," said PEDC Executive Director Rick Guerrero.
A new, multi-purpose arena will be added. It will be integrated with the existing Convention Center that will be remodeled.
The estimated completion date of the project is fall 2025. The $50M project will be funded through Sales Tax Revenue Bonds. PEDC will repay the Debt Service from the Sales & Use Tax Revenue currently collected by PEDC. Sales tax rates in the City of Pasadena will not increase, and property taxes will be unaffected by this project.
About the Pasadena Economic Development Corporation (PEDC)
PEDC was created in 1998 as a nonprofit, type B corporation under the Texas Development Corporation Act. It is financed by a half-cent sales tax collected in the City of Pasadena. State law allows the city to collect this sales tax to pursue specifically authorized economic development activities in the city.
