Six Tips for Integrating more Audio and Video into your programs
Copyright 2016- Jennifer Britton. All Rights Reserved
Over the last year as part of both the Group Coaching Essentials and Advanced practicum programs, participants have engaged in blended learning assignments, where they have had to listen into 2 hours of past presentations. It's been very exciting to hear  what a significant impact this has had on people's learning. It's been a huge reminder to me about the importance of creating diverse touch points and learning opportunities in rich programming.

Whether you are looking to launch your own video based programs on platforms like Udemy, where students can access them 24/7 at their own pace; or whether you are looking to integrate more audio and video into your programming, today's article covers six tips for creating and offering more audio and video.

1. Make a list of the tips you want to cover - In today's busy world a lot of professionals appreciate shorter sound bytes (supplemented by longer ones).
Activity: Make a list of twenty different topic areas you might create a video or audio on. What do your clients/audience want to hear about?

2. Consider what length you want to aim for - On platforms like Udemy, video based lectures are usually no longer than 20 minutes. What length is going to work with your people? over the years I have experimented with tips as short as 3 minutes (see the Effective Group Coaching tips at our YouTube page), to 30 minute Streaming blabs (which are then converted into video).
Activity- Taking a look at your list of topics, which ones s are appropriate for the different channels. how long do you want to make them? What are the preferences of your audience in terms of length and platform (on-demand vs live, streaming video vs audio etc)

3. Check out what equipment you have. Today's tablets, and smartphones, often record in HD, and many laptops have great webcams which cover some or most of your video needs.
Activity- Take stock of what you have already? What do you need to learn about how to record these?

4. Set up accounts you might need. If you choose to supplement with audio, all you'll need is a bridgeline service, like FreeConferencing.com, which can double as a host for your calls. Zoom, is another great platform which allows you to record up to 40 minutes on free accounts, and will send you both video and audio recordings after your sessions (as long as you record them!)
Activity - Set up at least one account this week and start to learn how to use it. Most of these have great tutorials

5. Script it out - Taking time to script out your recording can go a far way. Whether you are writing out a full script, using a design matrix or bulletting it out, get into action around this.

6. Do a dry run and see what tweaks are needed  I remember doing the first recording of my first video based program (the Inner Biz Leader Virtual Planning Retreat) thinking I had the audio down, but when I listened back to my test record (only 3 min) I knew the quality needed to be amped up. This is where trial and error, and investing in some good equipment comes into play.

For those interested in video based programming and support in getting yours out into the world, I am available for some 1-1 coaching work (download our current pages here), and will be continuing to expand on this topic at the Learning Lab and Design Studio. Whether it's questions about design, logistics, how to film, or market, let me help you create your first video based program.

I'll be hosting the March 2016 community call later this week - on Thursday March 10th from 2:30- 3 pm ET. I hope that you will be able to join us! The topic this quarter will be on Creating a Business Case for Group and Team Coaching. You can join in on Zoom  by following these instructions:
