RIBBON CUTTING
Lee's Grand Lake Resort
Neither wind nor rain can stop a Chamber Ribbon Cutting! While it may have been a bit soggy, we were honored to help welcome the new owners of Lee’s Grand Lake Resort, Alice and Mike Hung and crew. Business owners from Tulsa, wife Alice had made a trip to Lee’s Resort with a church group in 2019. Falling in love with the serenity of Grand Lake and the resort, Alice prayed to one day possibly own such a place with her own family. A few years later, while reading her Bible, Alice heard a “little voice” telling her that it was time to make her dream a reality. Miraculously, when she contacted the resort to inquire about the possibility of selling, the owners had just recently decided to list the property on the market. Alice was overjoyed and believed that “…everything would be so simple” – it, of course, was not. Though they encountered roadblocks and mishaps in the renovation of the property, the Hung’s soldiered on because they want Lee’s to be “the best Grand Lake resort” and welcome all to “see God’s creation”. Not only have they worked tirelessly to improve the resort, but they are also actively involved with the residents and visitors alike, providing a space for church services on the property and striving to
get to know everyone who calls Lee’s Resort “home” – temporarily or permanently.
The Open-to-the-Public event was attended by many including owners Mike & Alice Hung, employees and residents of Lee’s Resort, as well as Chamber Ambassadors John Sawyer – Sawyer Phillips Insurance, Rod Hurt – Grove Sun, Nick Bowers – Northeast Oklahoma Electric Cooperative, Jacob Wallace – FirsTitle, Cassie Brown – Grand River Abstract & Title Co., Kristy Haynes – Grand River Abstract & Title Co., and Jordan Perez – FirsTitle. Also attending was Grove Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice-President Connie King and President Laura Huckabee.
RIBBON CUTTING
Simple Simon's Pizza
The Grove Area Chamber of Commerce had the immense honor of holding a Ribbon Cutting for Grove’s newest addition, Simple Simon’s Pizza – the day before their Grand Opening! Though the store was buzzing with workers preparing for the big day, franchise owner Chris Morrison was gracious enough to spend a little time telling the Chamber Ambassadors about his dream for Grove’s Simple Simon’s location: “I tried to run away from the pizza business,” said Chris, the son of pizza restaurant owners, “but pizza is literally everywhere!” After years of being a project manager, Chris wanted to make a life for himself and his family in the Grove area away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Though Chris didn’t want to admit it at first, wife Tara knew that the pizza-life was in their near future. A year or so later, the building is up, and the pizza (and Calizones!) is ready to be served. If you’ve never tried Simple Simon’s Pizza, the Calizone is their claim-to-fame as well as their 30 inch (yes – 2 and half feet) “The Beast” pizza.
Chamber Ambassadors attending the Ribbon Cutting were Nancy Morgan, Linda Ferguson and Bobbie Bodine – Grand Lake Newcomers Club, Todd Franke – AmeriSpec Inspection Services, Jay Alexander – Grand Savings Bank, Dalton Homan – Edward Jones, Jacob Wallace – FirsTitle, Julie Pace – Grand Lake Real Estate Professionals, Natasha Arnall – BancFirst, Ivan Devitt – Legacy Real Estate, Syrina Nelson – BancFirst, and Rod Hurt – Grove Sun. Also pictured is owner Chris Morrison and brother Matt, Chamber Executive Vice-President Connie King and Chamber President Laura Huckabee.
2023 GROVE AREA CHAMBER of COMMERCE ANNUAL BANQUET
"An Evening of Excellence"
The 2023 Grove Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet, “An Evening of Excellence,” was a success! Chamber members and their families enjoyed an evening of dining, drinks, appreciation, and acknowledgment. Special guest speakers Emanuel Crawford, Jim Corbridge, and Barb Barnes delighted the audience with their personal stories of excellence in youth, service to our country, and service throughout our community.
There were five Business Council Awards presented by Cindy Hefner, former chair of the Chamber Business Council. The “Making a Splash Award” went to the Christian Motorcycle Association for ‘changing the world, one heart at a time’. Shangri-La Resort received the “Lake Life Award” showing tremendous support for the community through hospitality, tourism promotion, and job opportunity. The third award was the “Grand Ole Award”, given to Grand River Abstract & Title Co., a company that has been a member and strong supporter of the Chamber for decades. Patricia Island Country Club received the “Propeller Award” for helping to propel the Chamber forward via sponsorships, volunteerism, and membership. Award number five, the “Grand Impact Award”, went to the Grove Public Library for the huge impact they’ve made, and continue to make, in our community.
The Chamber Awards were given to three individuals who have gone above and beyond to serve the community and the Grove Chamber. The Ambassador of the Year Award was given to Jay Alexander, of Grand Saving Bank. Don Bormaster received the Volunteer of the Year Award. And Andy Stewart was awarded The Board Director of the Year. All three men have given tirelessly to the organizations they represent, the community they serve, and our Chamber of Commerce.
The evening was capped off with the traditional “passing of the gavel” as former Board Director, Andy Stewart welcomed in new Board Director, Dustin Able, of Grand Savings Bank.
A special thanks to Father David Bridges, Jason Evans and his staff at Mulligans, and Barb Barnes of Rustic Rehab, for providing us with lights and sound, an incredible meal, and beautiful floral arrangements that helped to make it an evening to remember.
Our community is amazing, and members of our Chamber of Commerce represent the best of the best. Thank you for letting us serve you… it is a privilege.
Do you have a neighbor that takes care of their yard like no one else? Or perhaps you drive by some gorgeous landscaping on your way to work that makes you smile? If so, nominate them for the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce's "Yard of the Month" and they could win some great stuff! Call, come by or email the chamber the address (and name/phone number if you can) of the Grove area home that you want to nominate.
