Greetings City of Grover Beach,
This month typically marks the end of summertime and the beginning of a new school year filled with anticipation and excitement. This year is anything but normal and the wonder of the new school year is tempered by the reality of distance learning given public health requirements with COVID-19. Our school district has done a great job preparing for this new reality and I applaud the teachers, district staff, and parents for their resiliency and positive spirit.
This is another reminder about communities helping each other in trying times. Communities are not dictated from the top but built from the ground up with support from fellow residents and businesses. Local government also plays a role in this support by helping create conditions for communities to succeed. Our City is helping do just that by providing microgrants to local businesses weathering financial losses, enabling businesses to operate outdoors when indoor use is restricted, and providing funding for child care assistance to support families. We’re also continuing our work in building an even better Grover Beach by fixing streets, improving water and sewer lines, and enhancing our parks and facilities. While there are still unmet needs to address, we are charting a clear path of improvement and following through with actions that support our community.
Lastly, this month also marks the beginning of the 2020 election period within our city. We have 10 candidates running for the four seats on the City Council with terms up this election. We also have a measure (Measure F-20) that would add a 1% sales tax to address community needs. Democracy is the foundation of our governance at all levels and I applaud those who have taken this step in seeking to serve Grover Beach and represent their fellow residents on the City Council.
Thank you to everyone for your community spirit and perseverance in challenging times. We’re all in this together and your City government is here for you. Let us know how we can help at cityhall@groverbeach.org or (805) 473-4550. #GBtogether
Sincerely,
Matthew Bronson
