What is the ECC Insider?
The ECC Insider is designed for United Way's employee campaign coordinators (ECCs), to give you tips and resources to make your campaign a success. You can see our collection of these and other resources in our Campaign Toolkit.
Update Contacts
Not an ECC for 2022? No problem. Just send the contact information for your company's new ECC to Chelsie Deaton or Stephanie Buchanan so we can update our records.

Thank you for your commitment to our community.
Campaign Growth
Create smart campaign goals
Growing your donor base or asking existing donors to increase their donations are just two of the possible goals you can implement for your United Way campaign. Consider your company climate carefully when choosing your goals. If you've experienced cuts or layoffs, it might be more appropriate to aim for a more relaxed participation goal. If your company is experiencing growth, now might be a good time for an increase. Here are our tips for how to work towards your goals:
Attract New Donors
Attracting new donors to contribute to your United Way campaign is simpler than you might think. Often times, providing context and information as well as incentives can help someone become a donor. Here are a few examples:

  • Change how you ask. Has leadership approached donors? Have you sent company-wide emails? How about talking to prospective donors face-to-face about their philanthropic goals?
  • Include a presentation at your campaign kickoff event so employees can get a clear understanding of United Way of Racine County's impact in the community.
  • Offer incentives such as half days, gift baskets, raffles, lunches, special recognition or other perks. Incentives can be based on dollar amounts or participation.
  • Host outings, meals or new donor orientations for volunteers. Two thirds of volunteers donate money to the same organizations they volunteer for and they tend to give larger gifts than non-volunteers.
Increase Donations from Existing Donors
A donation to United Way makes a big impact in the Racine County community. By utilizing resources and incentives that help show this impact, you can help your donors increase their donations. Here are a few examples:

  • Offer company incentives specifically to donors who increase their gifts. Send them a note such as a post-it on a solicitation or an email. Include the amount they donated last year and the amount their donation would be if they increased by two or three specific percentages. Match these to incentive levels if you offer them or to your campaign goal. Reach out to your investor relations representative or your finance department for the donation amount.
  • Is your company culture more collaborative or competitive?
  • If collaborative, have the office work together towards a common goal. Offer an incentive if they reach it.
  • If competitive, implement a friendly competition between teams, departments or offices to see who can raise the most. Plan a competitive special event such as trivia, a scavenger hunt, a game tournament or a cookoff.
  • Share our What a Dollar Buys handout with your employees to help them understand the impact of a larger gift.
  • Promote an affinity group (Women United) or leadership group (Beacon Circle) to connect donors with similar interests and philanthropic goals.
  • Increase engagement by sharing volunteer opportunities, inviting employees to join a virtual impact tour and sharing our social media posts about impact and opportunities. See our website for more ways to get involved.
Increase Donations by Expanding Your Campaign
While your employees make up the base of your United Way campaign, there are also other donor groups you can utilize to make your campaign successful:

  • Include retirees in your campaign. Engage them by mailing them a solicitation letter, including them in corporate match initiatives, inviting them to events and telling them about the increased power of their donation.
  • Add a special event to your campaign to raise money beyond employee pledges. Food-based events are typically popular, including Taco Tuesday, chili cookoffs, luncheons and other types of cookouts. If your teams are hybrid or remote, we have plenty of suggestions for virtual and socially-distanced events.
