Late Winter Greetings Planty Friends!

And welcome to the Ruscombe Community Garden Club!

With the start of a new growing season right around the corner, we are thrilled to announce the re-launch of the Ruscombe Mansion Garden Club. Open to anyone with a love of plants, you can come and go as desired to our twice monthly gatherings. We will meet on the 2nd Saturday of each month starting March 9th at Ruscombe Mansion at 10:00 am for talking, sharing, workshops, gardening speakers, etc. We plan to arrange a couple of off-site garden tours, as well, to check out various horticultural sites.

On the 4th Saturday of each month, we’ll meet at 10:00 am on the south lawn of the Mansion (the side with the goldfish pond) to get our hands dirty. We’ll create and plant beds, propagate, tend our medicinal plant border and more.

Meet you in the garden! Click for more

Love in Action at Ruscombe

Just as the daffodils are emerging from their underground slumber, so too, our community is beginning to emerge from the sleepy cocoon of Winter. This month we had workshops on Mindful Mandalas and Soulful Storycards and a celebration of the Snow Moon. We also had a neigborhood Valentine's Day party with lots of cookie decorating and crafts for the little ones, hosted by our very own Chef Zion - and we're just warming up!

Connecting with the natural world through Qi Gong on the Ruscombe south lawn, participants in the "Mindful Mandalas from Nature" workshop led by Elizabeth McCarthy, discovered the therapeutic benefits and self discovery of mandala art.

After creating the beautiful mandalas from nature to clarify personal intentions for 2024, they were left as gifts on the lawn returning the items to nature in gratitude.

The joyful sounds of little tots creating art and the sweet aroma of decorating cookies filled the Mansion the day before Valentine's Day. Chef Zion and the Onyx Marketplace Collective offered a free love-filled day full of activities for the neighborhood.

More art was created at the Soulful Story Artcards workshop led by Betsey Gilbert, where participants painted, journaled and went home with their own personal affirmation card set.

Full Moon Gatherings

March is Storm Moon

Join us each month at Ruscombe for an enchanting evening under the luminous glow of the full moon. The Full Moon Gatherings are a series of in-person events that empower and reconnect us with the strong healing of Grandmother Moon, and allow us to find rhythm between ourselves and the external world.

The March Full Moon is often called the Storm Moon and at the March 23rd event, we will honor the goddess Sedna, Queen of the Deep, and look at the lunar cultures of ancient Rome, India, China, and the Hebrews. We will focus on the lunar herb fennel and the lunar animal wolf. We will embody the restorative practice of a gentle movement system.

Join us on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 6:00 PM (EST) to 8:00 PM.

Next Full Moon Gatherings: April 23, May 23, June 21, July 21, Aug 17.

What is Shiatsu?

by Paula Derry, Ph.D., LMT, Associate Practitioner at Ruscombe

As with many health-related practices, there are different styles, approaches, schools.  Here’s how I see it:

Shiatsu is a gentle but deep touch therapy based in Chinese medicine.  Like many other Chinese medicine-based practices, Shiatsu views regards mind, body, and spirit as aspects of one larger whole; views the body as a living, interconnected system; encourages resilience; views health as a positive experience rather than the absence of disease; regards “feeling like myself” as an important experience.
