Session 3 of the Zero Waste Schools support program has launched on Mon. January 10th! We are already busy planning Spring sessions 4 and 5. Be sure to apply for 6 weeks of free programming including on-the-ground support from one of our talented Outreach Coordinators, help setting up waste stations, recycling and composting education for students and adults and more! We look forward to working together to get your school into tip-top shape.

Outdoor Classroom/School Garden Supplies
This is an evolving list of currently known DOE vendors that provide items related to furnishing and/or equipping an outdoor classroom/school garden and represents information shared with GrowNYC from NYC Department of Education teachers. If you know of a company that is a DOE vendor and provides equipment for this purpose, but is not listed, please send an email schoolgardens@grownyc.org to share the information so we can add it to the list.

Apply for Root Camp
GrowNYC is partnering with Ample Table for Everyone to bring their Root Camp Curriculum to our middle schools during the 2021-2022 school year. 

Root Camp is comprised of 10 lessons that include discussions around the connection between food and well-being, food justice, criteria for making decisions, and the rationale for shopping locally and in season. Students will engage their senses, brainstorm and discuss, and complete activities.


Grant Spotlights
Partnerships for Parks, a joint program of City Parks Foundation and NYC Parks, is accepting applications for their Capacity Fund Grant. Grantees will be awarded up to $3,000 for supplies and park projects to improve New York City Parks.

Public School Green Team Mini-Grants from DSNY and Citizens Committee of New York City are awarding up to $2,000 in mini-grants to public school Green Team projects. The mini-grants fund materials, basic equipment, and other items needed to make NYC Public School Green Team projects happen.

Application closes at 5pm February 3, 2022.

KidsGardening has launched their GroMoreGood Grassroots Grant. Applicants will recieve $500 in funding to start or expand their youth gardens or greenspaces. Applications are due by February 4, 2022.

The City Gardens Club of New York City is offering a grant ranging from $500 to $1,500 for projects that bring beauty of the natural world into the lives of children and adults in all five boroughs of New York City and to sponsor educational programs that help citizens:
  • develop appreciation and knowledge of nature
  • learn gardening skills
  • support the preservation and improvement of the city’s environment

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about resources, discuss engagement strategies and walk away with tools for their classroom. This event is for DOE employees.

Help kids learn what healthy food is, care where it comes from, and eat it every day as a FoodCorp service member. FoodCorps recruits talented leaders for a year of full time paid public service building healthy school food environments in limited-resource communities. Applications are open now.

The Youth Leadership Council (YLC) is an opportunity for youth ages 14-21 to volunteer at a community garden during the spring and summer.
Participants will learn firsthand from community gardeners how to maintain and grow a healthy garden in-person. Youth will also work on a project in the garden that will involve gaining skills such as carpentry, composting, environmental stewardship, community organizing, and event management. Farmstand & Fresh Food Box Trainings

These free trainings are available to nonprofit organizations and neighborhood groups interested in operating a food box or farm stand in their community. All training sessions are remote via Zoom.
