Check Out Our Amazing Volunteer of the Month!
|
This month we are highlighting a volunteer who has been extremely helpful to us this year.
Meet Jonathan Kong!
Jonathan has bee has been volunteering with GrowNYC since 2014! We adore his passion and dedication to help out Greenmarket! It is an absolute joy having him volunteer with us every year. Thank you so much Jonathan for being amazing!
GrowNYC: Please tell us about yourself, what interests you and how do you spend your time.
Jonathan: I'm currently a full-time student studying Human Development with a Health & Wellness minor at Binghamton University. I plan on continuing into graduate school next year in Social Work or Public Health. My interests include listening to Taylor Swift and Rachel Platten songs, watching romance movies like The Notebook, and learning more about how the mind or brain works in social situations. I spend my time hiking, yoga, pilates, biking, Zumba, Crossfit, rowing, cardio exercise, and jazz dance, but not running. After graduating, I want to work in either event management or mental health awareness.
GrowNYC: Why did you decide to volunteer with us?
Jonathan: With COVID-19, I felt that there's a need for volunteers to assist with the food assess programs even during a pandemic. I also wanted to be more active with my community by contributing my time to help give back to people who are struggling with financial and economic disparities.
GrowNYC: What has been your favorite moment/memory volunteering with us so far?
Jonathan: My favorite moments volunteering with GrowNYC was dressing up as a maple tree for Maple Fest, a strawberry for Berry Jam, and an apple for Apple Palooza when EscapeMaker did their events at Union Square in 2016 and 2017.
